I am confused on how the Defiant ended up in Tholain hands AND in the past at the same time...

It had something to do with the interspatial rift (or whatever Archer said) which not only opened the way between the universes but also spanned time. As an aside, the podcast with writer Mike Sussman I think mentioned that the graphic behind Archer during his explanation was ripped from the TOS episode ("The Tholian Web") that inspired this one.

What the hell was that? What the hell was that?!

Using actual motion picture footage from First Contact, along with the actual motion picture score?

An alternate intro, that combines the scenes from the normal intro with new imagery?

A fantastic tie-in with TOS?

Frickin' awesome. Enterprise has long since been dead - at least it's finally entertaining me with stuff that I want to see.

I thought it completely sucked ass.

I've watched every episode of this series, and I'm saddened by the cancellation, but this...

It's just pointless.

They're not the same characters. I don't care about them at all.

There's no connection to the characters I do care about.

And there's only four episodes left, and we have to sit through crap that's completely unrelated to the show??

The fact that so many people are raving about episodes that have (at best) a tenuous connection to the show in question really explains why Enterprise was cancelled. Most people didn;t want to se this show at all.

Apparently a proto-fascist Enterprise would have garnered a lot better ratings.

I looked at my watch about 10 times during this episode. That's roughly every six minutes. What a lame piece of crap that was.

It's as though they gave the fans a final ":):):):) you" with the cancellation, and now they're going one step further to ram that cancellation right down our throats.

And make people ask for more.

So, my wife and I weren't the only ones who thought this. That makes me feel a little better.

I can appreciate your sentiments on this. In my situation, I really don't care about any of the crew so at the very least, the episode was a change of pace. I agree that this type of episode should have appeared sooner rather than in the last half a dozen but such was the production choice. In the end it was entertaining (more so than many, many other episodes in this series) for me - but I can see where others would disagree.

I'll argue that the fact people are liking this episode is because it has many of the qualities people were looking for in the series - minus the proto-fascism. It tied in to TOS; it had an original alien race (tholians); it had a grittier feel to it. Had the series been handled better this could have been a great diversion in a season as opposed to the "beginning of the end" for the show.

And really - what can the show do over the next few episodes anyways? Tie up character plots? Are there any to tie up? I can't think of any arcs that need to be completed (excpet for who the figure was in the TCW - and really that be left alone as far as I'm concerned) and starting any new ones will simply feel rushed. Do they show the formation of the Federation? Probably could but I think it would feel rushed and unsatisfactory to the fans that still remain. I expect the last episode to feel rushed and unsatisfactory as it is.

I see no problem with at the very least creating a few good episodes that have some entertainment value since the show isn't going to grow any furhter.

According to an article I read, "Rick Berman has stated in interviews that at no time was the identity of "Future Guy" ever developed, nor a backstory created for the character."

So... I always thought, just to screw with the fans, it was gonna be the Borg Queen.

I really enjoyed it -- as everyone stated, the teaser and intro were completely
from left field.

Wouldn't it be cool if they *had* Kirk on the ship -- cgi, TOS clip or *gasp* Shatner
himself (I have a feeling they didn't do any of this since it hasn't been leaked already.)
Because he was on the ship when it phased and was trapped inter-phased-ly.
Which means that Enterprise is somewhere on "the other side" at this moment
in Space/Time/AlternateDimension. They could've had him in that goofy
bulky suit waving his arms in front of the Archer crew before vanishing off
to his side.

What's the "future guy" and the TCW for us Enterprise-late-bloomers?

Don't ask...it's best you don't know.

Bask in your Enterprise ignorance, for once the shroud has been lifted there can be no going back.

There are a lot of loose ends in the plot: Future Guy, the Trip/T'pol issue, the thread of xenophobia seen on earth, the official Prime Directive Is Now The Law episode (it's had an episode, but not the actual creation of the directive itself for Starfleet), the formation of the Federation, the Romulon war, the creation of shields instead of just hull plating for Enterprise, the transformation of the Maykos into just security for Starfleet, etc...

I think the fact that most of the people who liked this episode in this thread also don't like Enterprise in general is fairly telling. In fact, a ton were not even watching the show. The show had low ratings for network television, but not so low that it didn't still have a LOT of people watching it every week, who actually ARE attached to the characters after FOUR YEARS of watching the show. It would have been better to honor those dedicated fans with tying up loose plot threads rather than catering to people who long ago gave up on the show.
