Enterprise - 04/22/05 [Spoiler Talk]

I thought it completely sucked ass.

I've watched every episode of this series, and I'm saddened by the cancellation, but this...

It's just pointless.

They're not the same characters. I don't care about them at all.

There's no connection to the characters I do care about.

And there's only four episodes left, and we have to sit through crap that's completely unrelated to the show??

The fact that so many people are raving about episodes that have (at best) a tenuous connection to the show in question really explains why Enterprise was cancelled. Most people didn;t want to se this show at all.

Apparently a proto-fascist Enterprise would have garnered a lot better ratings.

I looked at my watch about 10 times during this episode. That's roughly every six minutes. What a lame piece of crap that was.

It's as though they gave the fans a final ":):):):) you" with the cancellation, and now they're going one step further to ram that cancellation right down our throats.

And make people ask for more.

I'm pretty much with you all the way on your comments. We have 4 episodes left, which means every episode should be devoted to wrapping up plot points and building to a season and series finale. And what do we get? Not one, but TWO non-continuity, NON CHARACTER RELATED episodes? What the heck? This almost looked like some silly thing they filmed a long time ago intended to be inserted as one-offs mid season some time later, and now they put it on because there will be no more seasons so they might as well get their monies worth and burn them out now.

I can see Tom Cashel and Mistwell's points. I remember having a similar reaction to Star Trek V: The Final Frontier ("We only have a finite number of original cast trek films left and they waste one on this?").

But as far as "just plain fun" was concerned the episode was great. Terrific entertainment. And yes, I too had read the Mirror Universe novels and caught the reference that the whole different timeline rooted from a change in attitude by ZC after hearing about the Borg from the TNG crew.

So was the temporal cold war. ;)

I liked the episode because, well, it was different. And, while I like the "normal universe" main characters, I don't really care that much about them. They are somewhat interesting, but none of them (to me) are as interesting as Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Picard, Data, Worf, Bashir, or The Doctor.

Plus, since it's being canceled anyway, I really don't think too much could happen in only 4 episodes that would really develop anyone significantly anyway. *shrug*

This episode was SWEET!

I loved the alternate First Contact, along with the opening.

I was really drooling when I was watching it.

Although, what rebellion were they talking about?

I just saw it last night when they reran it. I missed the first 30 seconds to a minute of the opening and thought I was watching "First Contact".... until the shooting started.... and then the opening sequence.

That episode was definitely head and shoulders above the dren of last week. Alternate beginning and the tholians for god's sake, gotta love it! The only "eh" part of the episode was the tholian's "natural transmitter." Contacting someone on the ship like this--sure; contacting someone thorugh space--um, no.

Yeah. The "natural transmitter" was too much of a stretch to be believable. But the Tholian did look kewl in CGI. And the fact that they were able to put up the "Web" in much, much, much, MUCH less time than in TOS. Made me go, "HUH?!?!" That was just too quick, IMO.

There were like, 10 ships. Although in "The Tholian Web," they have to weave it from scratch using their ships.

I understand Cashel, but in this case I agree with DaveMage. The series wasn't going anywhere anyway in the last 5 episodes. Other than T'Pol and Tripp, I don't see any open character issues, and that can be resolved in a single episode. In terms of plot, the Romulan war and the creation of the federation should each be a 1 or even 2-year arc. I'd rather have a good fun episode than rushed exposition.

The thing about time travel and parallel dimensions is that they have to be used sparingly. This episode was a blast, but I probably would only want to see one evil mirror universe episode/mini-arc in the whole series.

Tholian web speed occurs in direct proportion to the amount of dramatic tension required. ;)

From an entertainment point of view I though the episode was fun to watch. I really liked the beginning changes and feel of the episode. I'll say that I really feel no connection to any of the characters and seeing their mirror-counter parts wasn't as cool as seeing the TOS versions. But at least I can say it wasn't a waste of an hour.

I am confused on how the Defiant ended up in Tholain hands AND in the past at the same time...

Overall - it was worth the time to watch it even if it really doesn't add anything to the series.
