Epic Level Lich? I dont know!

If I have a 10th Level Cleric/10th Level Wizard who has had the Vampire and the Lich Template added to them, when it comes to adding Epic Levels would I count them as their character level, or do I have to take into consideration their ECL?

The same would hold true for say a Dragon that I want to take levels of fighter. Does the ECL play a factor of when Epic Levels are forced to be taken?

No. ECL tells you (among other things) how much XP you need to get to the next level. You still need 20 real character levels to become epic.

I don't have the ELH yet, but the playtest version of it mentiones characters with ECL being able to take epic things prior to attaining 21 character levels.

Of course, I would only allow you to take epic feats if you actually paid for your ECL via xp. If you tacked it on when the templates were added but then just raised your XP to match it, you didn't earn it in my eyes, and thus aren't epic level yet.

Bending of the rules in favor of bad guys. Basically, one of the chief bad guys in my upcoming Return to the return of the tomb of horrors (it shows up in all my campaigns) is vampiric lich. We call her the lich queen.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will build her as she was in life, add vampire, then add lich, THEN I will add any epic level gooeyness.

I don't recall reading that, but if it is indeed in there, I hope to god that's a big fat typo. :)

I totally agree.

I disagree. I think if you've got 210,000xp you should be able to take epic stuff, whether those xp are giving you ECL or actual class levels.

but then again, that seems to be wat you're saying in the second half of the post, so maybe I'm just confused (as usual).

Ummm...I agree with you :o ...I even confused myself. Doh! (don't ask) :)

If that rule is in there, I'll be rule zeroing it. ECL should be irrelivant for Epic levels. Even if you have 25,000,000 xp.

Then again, I could see the argument for epic advancement of standard monsters (dragons at the least).

I guess I will have to see how it's all lain out.

ECL is taken into account when doing Epic levels.

My local store let me read it but I can't pick it up until friday. but that is one area I did read a little about.

It talks about adding epic feats for creatures in the MM that are already at 20+ levels. or something to that effect.

Will know more when I pick it up tomorrow.
