I fall squarely into the "I could care less either way" category. Do I disapprove? Nope. Will I buy it? No interest whatsoever- not due to any objection, moral or otherwise- it just holds no interest for me. BTW- Male, adult, married with a child.

I mis-voted. I'm an adult stupid male, who can't work a mouse and should watch where he's reading and where he clicks. What woman would have me, D&D sex book or no?

ROFL!
You've made my late-evening/early-morning.

I'm a single adult male (why does this thread sound like a series of personal ads?) and I'd almost vote "who cares".
I don't think this book is the big pantsless boogie-man that a lot of people think it's going to be.
Of course kids shouldn't have it. Label it for adults, then the store owners won't be selling it to minors (and the parents can monitor their children for the publishing company as a last resort).

I'm not worried about how this will reflect on the hobby. It's one book. A drop in the bucket. People who view the hobby in a dim light just because they want to aren't going to change their minds. To be honest, who needs the approval of people like that?
The same goes for people who are worried about the approval of potential girlfriends/boyfriends/friends. If you don't use the book and they associate the book with your hobby, set them straight. Besides, if they know so little about the game that they'd use that line of thought, how the hell would they have heard about the book anyway?

This gets my patented "Much Ado About Nothing" stamp.

Would I use the book? Probably not. I can't see myself even roleplaying a romantic scene with my group and certainly not a sexual encounter. However, as a behind the scenes DM tool, it could be useful, but it would have to have a hell of a lot of crunchy rules.
I don't know what the authors are going for, but everyone keeps dwelling on the sex. What about the biology, the ecology? D&D is full of halfbreed races, let's hear more about that. What are the long-term effects of using magic while pregnant (think Lady Jessica from Dune)? That kind of thing could make the book a very useful tool. Will it really turn out being that useful to the average group? Probably not, but until I see a copy of the book, I cannot say.

This was a bit long-winded for a poll answer, but these are the things I take into consideration when the question is asked of me.

Approve, Father, Married, ect. I don't personally care and probably wouldn't buy this product OTOH i told my wife about and she thinks it sounds funny and worth checking out.

Pollster's update...

Hi folks, as author of this thread, I realize that I could provide a bit more of an explanation about the intent of this survey:

I am particularly interested to see if there are any trends or correlations regarding those who approve/disapprove. I was not after any measure of degree to which ppl would approve/disapprove, but rather to exploring whether the circumstances in their lives have any connection to their vote/position. Since the degree to which one approved/disapproved is not being measured, I felt I could focus upon other parameters and waive the case for those who felt "neutral". Sorry about that. :) If you really wish to express your abstention, of course feel free to do so in a wee post. I will tabulate those on the side... :)

Please note the question is about the general issue of erotic themes in RPGs, and not just about the BoEF that has spawned some controversy... (I've been watching ppl's remarks in their posts... Should I have made that clearer? Maybe... We'll see. I'm not an expert at internet poll design--live and learn, eh? :) )

This poll/survey is set up for 21 days since its debut... Feel free to take your time to think about your vote.

-W. :)

PS: I'm DMing this weekend. I'll be back to check things out here on Monday evening. Game on! :)

What I think was unclear in the poll, and still remains so, is whether by "approve" you are talking about approval of it's right to publication, approval of Valar's decision to publish it, approval of people using it, or approval of using it onesself. I think your data might potentially be colored by this distinction. Someone could approve of the right to publish, but think it's a bad idea in general. Such a person could really vote either way, as there is no guidance in regards to this. Even if you clarify it now, it won't help much since most people have already voted, and those who haven't yet will probably vote before they read the thread, if they read it at all.

Anyways, just a thought. Any conclusions you draw now have to be preconditioned by this ambiguity.

Male. No kids. Romance in shambles.

I would keep this out of the hands of kids until I (or their parents) deemed it proper.

edit: voted approve

Male, 14 years old. and really thinks this is a bad idea, for the same reason that I formed my opinion of the BOVD: The hobby does NOT need crap like this to add to its reputation. Do you really think you need a books shouting SEX!!!!!!!!! and SADOMASOCHIST!!!!!! next to the DnD core books? It attracts people to the hobby that I'd rather not associate with, and drives away some people who I think would have made great RPers.
