Etherscope?

I just got a hold of a copy of the core book thanks to the reviews people gave in this tread and it's everything I was hoping for!

It's mechanics are almost perfect for the homebrew I've been working on so it'll save me a buch of work. Yay!

Cheers, as gamers ourselves its really satisfying to know people enjoy what we do! Love to hear about the homebrew and what you'll be adapting for it!

The Lemurian Candidate
- is set in Birmingham (England), not the Great Metropolis (a good or bad point depending on your PoV)

The Lemurian Candidate has some background for Birmingham, and lets people see a bit more of Britain than the Great Metropolis. But it's certainly not a plot that's intrinsically tied to Birmingham - you could translate it to TGM without batting an eyelid!

Adventure number 2 will be a very different style altogether. As I've said before on these boards, think Under Siege on a zeppelin ...

Magic?

This product has always sounded interesting to me, I love Victorian flavor.

I was curious though what the magic and/or psychic system is like?
Is it skill based like True 20? Vancian (God I hope not)?
Does it only work in the Ether or also on earth? What it is capable of, are occultists throwing around fireballs like in D&D, or is it more subtle? Etc.

Thanks for any answers!

Magic and psychic powers are very mysterious, low key and poorly understood in the etherscope world, although etheric scientists claim they can explain much traditionally supernatural activity through an understanding of how etherspace interacts with prime reality, and follows a Victorian approach to the occult, especially as seen in the work of authors such as Algernon Blackwood, Arthur Machen and Conan Doyle's spiritualist works with some mythos cultism thrown in. The system uses skill based occult powers, similar to True 20, Psionics Handbook and Fading Suns D20, initially acquired through talents and which can then be purchased as class skills. Occult powers can further be enhanced by feats, additional talents and entry into advanced and prestige classes. Don't worry, no fireballs :). Hope this helps and anyone whose had an occult character in their games please chip in, thanks.
