People who can't distinguish fiction from reality are scary.

There's this profession called actor. They're called that because they're putting on an act, as in it's not real. It's make believe. For fun. For entertainment. And it's not only actors who put on acts. Some of the things you see on the movie screen and TV are not real. Even if people are speaking, they're not necessarily telling the truth or saying things they actually mean. There's several forms of entertainment where people pretend and make believe. For fun. Yes, the person on the screen is a real person, but the situations, etc are make believe. This man isn't a monster because he played a role in a movie. Likewise so many other entertainers who say and do things for entertainment. Yes, sometimes things you don't like happen in the make-believe entertainment. That doesn't make the real person doing their job a monster.

Yeah this has been an issue as long as actors have existed, amazingly - well certainly in Western Europe (I dunno if the slightly more mannered stuff in classical Greece or medieval Japan had similar issues) - it was a problem in the 1600s, for example, a problem in the 1800s, a problem in the 1900s, and still apparently some people are so profoundly stupid and culturally illiterate that it still is. Nathan Jones' performance wasn't even exceptionally creepy or anything - he played it pretty straight as a slightly mentally subnormal perv. It didn't stand out from the general background level of "Wow these are some evil bastards" that Furiosa had.

I will say I appreciate an actor who can really absolutely emotionally wind me up even though I am aware that they are acting - Sterling K. Brown is amazing for this. I love him as an actor, and he's played a number characters I absolutely loathed or really felt deeply frustrated by!

Yeah, at times I think the Trisolarans (or Thermians for a less bleak view) have already invaded Earth.

Having come back from Origins, I realize that I don't really wan to play online anymore. I mean, I will, as it is my only real option these days, but I don't want to. I want to GM regular face to face game again.
