Is that a particularly positive response? Very few are voting for switching to buying, even with a pretty massive push by the WotCs.

Reactions are not 4e negative, but they do not seem 5.0/next or even 3.5 positive either.
People who planned to purchase it still will. People who didn't plan to purchase it still won't. What it tells me is that for all the bellyaching going on, more people will buy the books than not. I view that is net-positive.

Given how few surprises there are from being able to see basically everything, I think what this shows is that WotC has previewed enough in the months prior for moat plugged in nerds to have made up their mind.

I'd say it is an expected response. People who had decided one way or the other based on what they knew (from the playtest) had little reason to change their mind as there are no real surprises in either direction. It would be more interesting to see what the undecided ones think of the book reveals.

The big shift we saw on the boards was the poll after they started rolling out the art previews a month a day a half ago: but we've all seen the art and the big rule changes, the revelof the past couple days have been minor points like the index is decent.

WotC coming in and retroactively telling people what they can and can't show should be enough info for everyone: don't financially support them. They're dirtbags.

....

What? They gave early access with an NDA that gave a few stipulations (don't show the index, don't show the Bestiary, don't just do a page by page flip-through). Pretty standard stuff?

And of course theyvare scumbags, that has nothing to do with whether I like the toys they are making, same as any of thebother scumbag companies.

Common selection effect. People who are happy or indifferent about something don’t feel the need to come on the internet and comment on it.
doesn’t mesh with the majority of people having decided to buy it. Also, this is a TTRPG site, there generally is a higher level of interest than on Amazon reviews, so I would expect a lot less distortion

It kinda does though. "Scumbags" aren't monolithic. Sure, it's difficult to shop guilt-free in a capitalistic society, but there are companies that deliver quality product, and what they all have in common is regard for customer experience. There's often an ulterior motive like market share, but in effect they invariably prioritize the customer.

In contrast, what strikes me about Hasbro/WotC of late is the naked and utter contempt toward their customers. The 3PP/OGL money grab, saying we need to be monetized more, hiring the effin' Pinktertons (!!!!!) over M:TG cards. . . They've done other things with plausible deniability (use of AI "art", for example) but at this point their intentions are literally public knowledge, as in they've straight-up announced they're out to bilk us.

The folks who designed this 5.24 or whatever, for all I know it's their dream job and they tried their damndest to make something worthwhile. So yeah, there's hope that it'll be good. . . BUT whoever's running the show had to have made it extremely difficult, because the leadership over there doesn't see us as customers to value, but whales to be hunted and skinned. That matters too.

TL,DR: It's absolutely relevant to product quality when a corporation exposes itself as brazenly sociopathic toward its customer base. If they were selling prepared food, they're sporting the kind of attitude that leads to listeria outbreaks.

My group is soon wrapping up a big campaign and we were thinking about switching to 5.24...
We talked it over this weekend and decided not to. So, yeah the current 5.24 marketing campaign lost them a group. We would have bought it without all the fiascos.
