Long rumoured, the Henry Cavill fronted Warhammer 40K TV show is apparently officially a go at Amazon.

Amazon acquired the rights 2 years ago to produce a TV show based on Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 game. Deadline is reporting, and Cavill himself confirming, that the series is now officially in production.

WH40K is the most popular miniature wargame in the world. Originally published in 1987, it is on its 10th edition. Set in the far future, it mixes fantasy tropes with sci-fi in a grim, dark universe. It has spawned multiple tabletop roleplaying games, such as Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, and more, the current lineup being publishing by Cubicle 7.

According to the deal made 2 yeasr ago, Amazon had until December 2024 to mutually agree on “creative guidelines for the films and television series to be developed by Amazon”. There is no showrunner yet. The show will also be produced by Vertigo Entertainment.

To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer models over 30 years ago....the Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey!

My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we've been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though—more to come in time!

Warhammer is one of those games that I've always wanted to get into, but just struggle to commit to. I already spend enough money on Magic: The Gathering.. And these minis aren't cheap. That's also only considering the monetary investment. I don't really have the time, nor the desire to get into painting on top of my other obligations and hobbies.

But there's a growing population of 40k players at my LGS. I may not be able to resist the siren song for much longer.

I hope Cavill's show is rad.
The new TTRPG Imperium Maledictum is pretty fun and set in 40K. No minis required.

Maybe give Kill Team a look, especially if your FLGS runs regular games.

Wife and I have been playing Warcry (Fantasy version) and loving it. Especially since we don't need to paint too much and it's much easier on the wallet!

Don't forget like 4 different ttrpg's (and that's not including Warhammer Fantasy).
You got:
Dark Heresy
Rogue Trader
Black Crusade
Only War
There's Deathwatch as well.

The RPG books seem pretty expensive on eBay (in the UK, at least) but that may just be because fans want to collect them, rather than use them to play the TTRPG.

I'm a big fan of Dan Abnett's novels, especially Eisenhorn / Ravenor (inquisitors) and the Gaunt's Ghosts series (Imperial Guard), which I'd strongly recommend if anyone is interested in getting into the setting.

Caiphus Cain is great as well, but it's something of a subversion / parody so maybe not the best place to start.

And I had no idea Henry Cavill was from (the island of) Jersey. I've been past the Little Shop a few times, but not sure I've ever been inside - seemed to be wargames rather than RPGs, and I don't like buying stuff in Jersey when I'm over there since they add 5% tax to everything.

Wrath & Glory could give you the Gaunt's Ghosts feel, while Imperium Maledictum is right enough on the spot for Eisenhorn/Ravenor.

So I don't really watch video, but I know Henry Cavill played superman and the witcher, and everyone seems to love him. How come he's not playing those roles any more? Just bad luck? I'm confused why he's not the same as the captain america guy or iron man, with like a multi year thing going for him
My opinion - rubbish writers and directors behind those shows.
Ofc that is completely subjective, but I feel (as with many other actors) they get wasted on poor scripts and direction. He was perfectly cast for both roles, so the problem lay elsewhere.

Cavill is a pretty descent actor and seems like a nice guy, not only because he's a gamer too. Sadly the last words tends to come from the money guys who are more interested in doing dirty with interns than rolling dice (fools, I say!). But if only Cavill get enough input, I think this can be really great.

My preferred choice is an imperial Inquisition character (aka Gideon Ravenor) and his team hunting rogue psykers across the galaxy. It would be a great way to visit planets, learn about the threats from the void, the various space marine factions and xeno aliens.

I had a Warhammer addiction way back soon after I returned to civilian life; alas, it was a pricey addiction.
Incredibly happy that WH is getting a show and even happier that an actual player and an actual talented actor is getting a lead role.

Congrats Mr. Cavill, you are always so very easy on the eyes <3
