How many Supergirls...

So how many Supergirls are there anyway?

I remember the original who died in the Crisis.

There was the implied one from the Aliens/Superman crossover.

Then we have Matrix, or whatever it was, from the old Superboy universe where the Time Trapper created it and the good Lex brought over Superman who became a murderer when he executed the bad guys.

Now he's got another blood relative?

Where's Crisis of Inifinite Cleaning up Continuity when you need it?

Wasn't there a 'daughter' that was supergirl for a few issues before she faded out of the timeline?

I think, the Matrix one is still around just short on powers. I understand why she isn't around anymore but I think she just gave up and started being acting 'normal'.

Well. Lets see...

There's the Pre-Crisis Kara Zor-El. She died in Crisis. Sacrificed herself. Boo-hooh.
Yadda-yadda-yadda. Famous cover with Superman with her in his arms.

There's the Matrix/Earth Angelic from the Timetrapper's Pocket Universe. She retired
after she had Alternate Silver Age Timeline Superman's baby. I think. My memory's
a bit hazy. Good story, actually.

There's the Futuresmith daughter of Kal-El during the Brainiac Tech Timestorms. She
ceased to exist when the Brainiac Tech was wiped out. Or something. Joe Kelly sucks.

And now Kara Zor-El recently got herself a Post-Crisis incarnation. Written by Jeph
Loeb. Designed by Micheal Turner.

And there's Pre-Crisis Earth 2's transformed into Post-Crisis Earth 2's Power "Card
carrying member of the 'I have no idea what my continuity is!' club, featuring such
characters as Hawkman and Donna Troy" Girl.

That's all I can think of at the top of my head.

Say what? Alternative Silver Age Timeline Superman's baby? Why do I feel the urge to vomit? Was this in the Supergirl comic or something else? (My interest in the Matrix version of Supergirl died the second she became an Angel type being.)

No bad seafood here.

One of the prime reasons they did Crisis of Infinite Earths was to cut down on the multiple worlds, history revision, etc... the writers since then have done a fantastic job of not following that princible with things like having characters from Elseworld come into the main continuity (ala Magog), Wonder Woman's mother going back in time, continuity issues with characters like Tora and Power Girl (still), as well as a host of other issues.

Peter David is a writer whose work I enjoy, but man, without some more details, this sounds like stunningly bad crap.

Well, they had to bring her back, or loose the license, could be wrong on that. But the only peeve I have right now, is the uniform, time to grow up on that look. That is my quarter.*expensive ain't I?*

Killing off Kara Zor-El in Crisis #7 was a mistake. That's why we've seen so many resurrections of the character. It was originally done because they thought there were too many Kryptonians running around (Phantom Zone villains, bottled city of Kandor...), and they wanted Superman to be the Last Son of Krypton again.

In the last story arc of the Supergirl comic, Peter David brought the original teen Silver Age Supergirl into the current timeline. Linda (former Matrix, the Fallen Angel) found out that Kara would have died if she returned to her own timeline, so Linda took her place, returning to the pre-Crisis universe. The whole "married to Superman" thing was like one panel, and they had a daughter named Ariella. But this timeline was not meant to be, and Linda had to give up this life and let teen Kara return to her own timeline (and her death). So Linda never really married Superman. After this life was snatched away from her, Linda hung up the cape. For a while, readers speculated that the main character of Fallen Angel was her.

Peter David had intended to keep teen Kara around, with both Supergirls starring in the book, but the book was cancelled.

Anyway, there are two other Supergirls that haven't been mentioned yet. A Daxamite named Laurel Gand, cousin of Lar Gand (Mon-El) was created to take Supergirl's place in the Legion of Super-Heroes, and took the super-hero name Andromeda. And there was a new Supergirl in the DC 1 000 000 story arc, in the 753rd (?) Century.

I hated that title.

DC 1,000,000

I get the idea that it's a long way into the future. So, it's not the same as all the other future stories all over the DCU. Didn't it take place one million months into the future or something silly like that so they get 853rd century?
