"I'd insult you again, but I don't think you're smart enough to get it," Eoghan murmured, then realizing it made a reasonable jibe he repeated it louder, with bardic force behind it.

OOC: Eoghan uses Vicious Mockery on Orog5. DC 15 WIS save or 3 psychic damage and disadvantage on next attack.
Vicious Mockery: 2D4 = [2, 1] = 3

Tenibor followed Valda, who rounded the corner and arrived near the Orog just in time to see it fall to Quinn's flame and Jack's quarrel. (Whether it had understood Eoghan's jibe was left to the gods, as it fell before it made any obvious reaction).

The excavation site fell quiet, with only the sound of Cordit, who struggled to get her shaggy ape-body through a narrow spot, and then got a leg stuck in a hole that was nearly large enough for her to fall into.

OOC: Fight's over. Here's a map where everyone is at:

Legend
Fifty feet past Bible, up a sloping and twisting tunnel, there was a high ledge. On that ledge, Jack and Tenibor could hear a deep grinding, breathing sound that could only come from two sleeping stone giants. How they had slept through the sound of battle was perplexing, until one remembered that the sound of dwarves and orcs digging while orogs beat them was not unlike the sound of battle. (In particular when it echoed up a rocky tunnel.)

Eoghan, having realized he's not the stealthiest, stays well back from the sleeping giants to let those that can get close do so.

~<If you are going in close, do so and coordinate your attacks. If they survive, the rest of us will step up.>~

Bible gives a short nod at Jack's suggestion, and after retrieving her second axe from the cavern floor and stowing it in her belt she creeps forward cautiously, keeping an eye peeled for a way to get the rescued prisoners out and to safety.

Legend
Bible, Jack, and Valda crept up the steep tunnel to find two stone giants sleeping on the hard ground (though presumably, being stone giants, they did not mind it). Their clubs were leaning against the far walls, and they had a large chest that likely contained their personal belongings. These giants were the overseers of the excavation, but they were not normally residents of the steading. They clearly were used to hard work, including sleeping rough when they could find the time to do it. Neither of them noticed as the three "smalls" crept into their chamber.

OOC: I mean, I guess you can assassinate them if you're feeling inclined. Though I will often allow scenes like this to go without rolling, these are STONE giants, so I can see how a single dagger, no matter how well thrusted, might not finish them off. So if you want to try, you'll still need to roll attacks, albeit with advantage, naturally, and you auto-crit on a success. Either way, if they live, they'll wake up. So I guess this is round one? (Assuming that's what you do).

Jack drew The Knife and moved in decisively toward one of the slumbering oppressors.

OOC: Unless Valda or Bible react to stop him, Jack would draw his dagger and attempt to assassinate the one he's next too. He's too tired and hungry for vengeance to be very thoughtful at this point. Assuming the others don't stop him, here's the rolls:

Critical sneak attack with advantage: 2D20.HIGH(1)+10 = [19, 13]+10 = 29
2D4+6+10D6 = [2, 4]+6+[6, 4, 2, 1, 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 1] = 41

If either Valda or Bible intercepts Jack, he will hold off, shrug his shoulders, and wearily move his way back to the others.

Although Bible recognizes the opportunity to attempt to slay the sleeping giants, her priority is to get the prisoners to safety without taking unnecessary risks. She knows Cordit is counting on her to get her out alive.

On the other hand, she respects Jack's freedom to determine his own fate, so watching him advance towards his victim, dagger in hand, she shrugs, stands aside, and unsheathes her own sword. She nods to Valda thinking, ~<Let's you and me get in poz-ish-kun around this same one that Jack's attackin' an' cause it as much hurt as poskible with the firsk blow!>~

She then raises her sword and attempts to plunge it as deeply as she can into the sleeping giant's neck.

OOC: It's an interesting scenario, that rules don't cover well. Some DMs will just handwave it (which I'd probably do with a lesser foe); while some will just play by-the-book (in which assassination of anything other than the wimpiest of foes is impossible). Here, I want it to be possible for you to assassinate (even a giant) but not quite automatic (especially not for one character). I'm going to add the benefit of saying that this giant, while sleeping, effectively has half HP (no "defending" or "luck"-based HP). If he survives and wakes up, he'll get them back, but if Valda can finish him off, (Advantage, Auto-Crit), then he's done for. @Shadowedeyes? It's up to you.
