(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

Before starting his chant, Gimlak obliges and tries to move the keys. If they are too heavy, he’ll ask for rope to tie around the ring for the others to pull back.

Seein' that the others are busyin' themselves, Doc takes a few minutes to root around the room that the Big Ugly emerged from, tossin' and what looks suspicious-like and verifyin' that there ain't nothin' else worth takin'. Especially some likker.

While searchin', Doc avails hisself of the second eyes of one of the souls, givin' him some respite from the pressure.

Satisfyin' hisself with that, Doc relaxes and lights up a cheroot, although he will give some assistance if needed.

OOC:
Doc searched the quarters.

Search (Active Perception): 1D20+10 = [2]+10 = 12

Ouch.
Past Life: 1D6 = [4] = 4

Total = 16.

The Colonel helps Gimak with the keys.

OOC: The Colonel can Help (give advantage) and/or offer Guidance (+1d4). If it's a matter of reaching the keys, he can also Levitate.

Donnell collects his blanket from the gong and starts picking weapons from the dead hobgoblins. He wraps them into the blanket for easier carrying.

“The prisoners will need weapons.”

OOC: just collecting obvious, mundane weapons [\ooc]

The key ring was heavy, but not so heavy that Gimlak couldn't easily lift it down and pass it to the Colonel. While they were doing that, Donnell gathered weapons (mostly morningstars, but the occasional hand-axe and javelins were gathered).

Kahru and Doc searched the desk and the room. The giant had hidden a sack of coins and gems in his lousy mattress, and there was an earthenware jug on the desk that had a rune painted on its surface that wasn't in the crude script that hill giants used to approximate the giant language, but one that Kahru felt looked more northern - still Giantish - but more likely the Jotun version of the giant script.

Doc was drawn toward a large chest, that he assumed could be opened by one of the keys, if the big padlock was any indication.

Doc rambles on up to Hoss and gets the right-lookin' key for the chest. He looks 'round the padlock, makin' sure that the Big Ugly hadn't placed no partin' gifts for him, before openin' that sucker.

OOC:
Doc gets key from Colonel

Doc checks for traps on padlock/chest area.
Active Perception: 1D20+10 = [5]+10 = 15

Heh. I guess the higher bonus, the lower the roll!

Doc unlocks chest and sees what's inside.

Doc rooted around in the keychain until he found a likely candidate - it was tarnished, about a foot long, and it jammed the heavy padlock for a moment before working. It took two to open the top of the chest, and you had to climb inside to have a look around. Mostly, it was full of the giant's personal things - clothes and trinkets - but similar to his bed, he had hidden two bags of coins, gems, and other valuables.

The Big Ugly had been skimmin' - prolly taking bribes an' holding out on his bosses. He'd cached a small fortune.

OOC: All together, he's got about 2200gp worth of valuables that can be used in most places as coin.

Doc feels the stirrings of disappointment when he comes to realize thar ain't no likker or smokes in the chest, but grabs the coin and passes it to the yung 'un.

Seein' nothin' else to interest 'em at the moment, Doc slides back into a restful state, observin' the others 'til his help is called for.

OOC:
Give the money to Donnell, or whoever wants it right now.

@TaranTheWanderer
@Kobold Stew
@Steve Gorak
@Tonguez
Is someone keeping track of the treasure?
@FitzTheRuke If time allows, Doc is taking a short rest while the others free prisoners and the like.

Donnell gaws at the cash,

"Uh, thanks..."

He almost drops his bundle of weapons trying to keep hold of the money.

OOC: having just come in, I haven't tracked anything. I'll bookmark it once we do a tally. Maybe in the OOC thread.

@FitzTheRuke I'd also like to take a short rest if it's available.

As the dwarf and colonel fetched the keys, the Northman took a better look at the earthenware jug and the painted rune adoring its surface.
"Jotun?" he noted trying to recall what he knew of their script and dialect "Waythe, if I describe it, do you have any idea of Jotun runes?"
