OOC: Yeah, need the conclusion of the Parlay and I beleive the Colonel has the key.
As soon as we get the key I'm happy to go and free the Elf I was talking to and have him identify who the others are - caution first

oh and if anyones hungry I can get us some good berries :)

Kahru took the heavy keys while the Colonel and Gimlak continued to speak with the Stone Giant, who sighed a low rumbling noise and said, ::We will not stop you from taking the prisoners here in the cells. However, if you take our orcs, as you did our dwarves, we will be forced to abandon our work.::

When Kahru opened the cell that held the elf knight Tamanar, the elf stepped out and nodded his thanks. He had been badly beaten recently, but he held himself with a proud grace. He said, "There are two hill giants through these doors, who may resist if we try to take their 'toys', as they so shamelessly refer to us."

OOC: Sorry for my absence - I've been updating characters to the 2024 rules for my F2F games.

OOC:
Doc has no problem leaving the orcs to them, so long as the orcs and giants stay to themselves.
If we are closing in on an hour, let's go ahead and finish the SR.
If not, let's part-ay with the two hill giants.

Kahru took the heavy keys and returned to the cells to release the elf, taking time to look him over

"are you strong enough to fight?" he inquired of the Elf pointing back to Donnel who had had the foresight to gather the bugbears weapons. The druid was willing to offer healing and good berries but first wished to see who was most in need.

" we have a truce with the Steinjotunen" he explained simply "but will deal with any hill giants who oppose us

Can you identify
the other prisoners?" Kahru continued after assessing the elfs strength "We will free those of the prisoners we can trust...

Gimlak nods and reflects. He looks at his companions and says. “Those terms are acceptable, but in exchange, I insist, I will need more details about what you are digging for

Legend
The giant was no politician, but he did not want to cause strife between the Dwarves and the Stone Giants, who shared a range of mountains in a relationship that was often turbulent, but had been peaceful for decades. He gave Gimlak as many details as he could, that as well as a few smaller magic-items, they had found a polished purple stone with black veins running through its egg-shaped form. It had made them uneasy, and they'd wrapped it in furs and sent it with the others back to the Castellan of Howling Craig, a Giantess named Balestraya.

::If you wish to observe it, I am sure that you may petition Thane Arnak for an audience at Howling Craig.::

There seemed to be no deception - the giants did not have a specific thing that they were digging for, so much as they sought any artefact that they could find from the discovery of the old Temple under the Steading.

While Gimlak spoke, Kahru and Tamanar opened the other cells. One held an old human merchant, another two of his caravan guards. One held a halfling woman, and one a human laborer. When they came to the second-to-last cell, a voice inside said, "Hurry! Free me. I have been here so long."

But the keychain did not seem to have the key, and none of the prisoners had ever met the occupant of that cell.

"Let me have a look at that lock. I might be able to set them free"

OOC:
I don't think it will ruin the short rest by picking the lock, unless there's a trap and I take damage?
