The voice behind the door made the northmans skin crawl, an unnatural tingling which urged him to turn away, even moreso when the emptiness of the voice attracted the attention of the dread gunslinger.

"I don't think it is your picks that are at fault" Kahru commented as Donnell withdrew from further attempts "some doors should remain locked - the spirits conspire to keep it so"

The Barbarian-Druid stepped back also, glancing at Doc through the cheroot haze before turning his attention to Tamanar and the other freed prisoners gathered in the corridor.

Kahru was a man of the wilderness, not use to dealing with groups who werent hunters or warriors. But he was also healer and knew well enough that these released prisoners needed calm and hope - perhaps Good berries would fill their bellies and prepare them for whatever came next.

"there are still enemies above" Kahru spoke to the Elf Knight "though we have killed the Hill giant king and the Wolf keeper, the ildjotun remains with a horde of ogres and their lesser kin fighting the Lord Faldurs men at the front gate!

Will you take charge of these we have released?
"...

OOC: Using a charge from the Staff to cast goodberry to distribute among the ex-prisoners, check to see if any need healing and then make sure check which of them can handle a spear if they need to fight their way out.

"There is something unnatural sounding about it. Then I guess, that's that! Time to go?"

He helps to get people ready to go and distributes weapons to the released prisoner(s)

OOC: I reread the description. Is it a ghoul or something in there behind the door?

The stone giant indicated that he did not know of any dwarves that hadn't been taken the previous evening. ::I will return to our work, then, if we are finished here.::

Tamanar nodded that he would watch over the other prisoners, and he looked over the weapons that Donnell had collected from the bugbears. When he and the other prisoners were armed well enough to defend themselves, should it come to it, he suggested, indicating toward the south-west, "If there are any more prisoners, they will be through those doors."

There was one last cell, to the east, past the one with the strange voice. No one called out from within. Tamanar said, There was once a Drow there, but there were rumors that he escaped. I do not know more."

Doc had heard what one of them pointy-ears had said, and figured it was time to get back to business.

Hoss, reckon we open the doors and unleash a little welcome on the rustlers.

OOC:
Doc moves to the doors indicated to have two hill giants on the other side and takes position for firing.

Waits for rest of group to get ready and to open doors.

The Colonel stands and cracks his knuckles, as he joins Doc. He adjusts his shield and is ready to strike, keen as always to lead the charge. He makes visual contact with Donnell, and is pleased that the lad is on his own, holding himself with confidence and strength.

OOC: I am not sure if we have checked the final four cells on the right of the guardhouse?

OOC: Only the last Cell wasn't openened. I'll assume that it gets done before we move on open the doors to the south-west.

The last door on the east wing opened with some force applied, as the door was warped from dampness. Inside, the cell was empty, but a large hole could be seen in the back wall, and a short tunnel appeared to lead to a dark natural cavern that was quiet except for the sound of running water. It was out of sight, but it sounded like an underground stream.

Tamanar nodded, thinking of his earlier comment, "It appears the rumors were true - the Drow escaped his cell. Though I would not venture to guess if he escaped much further. Though if anyone could navigate an underground tunnel, I suppose that a Drow might."

He sounded like he didn't personally prefer to try it.

looking into the dark hole and hearing the sound of water, Kahru recalled the jug and glowing liquid he had taken from the Cell Keepers office, it could come in handy if he wanted to test it. Noinetheless it was probably unwise to explore the darkness alone, he was no drow and Tamanar didnt show any enthusiasm either.

"may his ancestors guide him in the darkness" the Druid spoke the small blessing upon the caverns spirits before turning back to join the others "we may yet return".

Out in the main hall Kahru saw that the Colonel and the others were standing at the big doors and ready to move on against the giants. The freed prisoners were there too waiting. They needed to be led out of the steading but if the Colonel chose to move on through the doors Kahru would go with him (Waythe practically demanded it)

"So Tamanar, now that you have seen who you will be leading, what is you're plan?" Kahru looked to the Elf knight for a determination

OOC: Dont want to split the party and Kahru is ready to slay more giants - but....

"We will wait for you, and warn you if anyone comes from upstairs, or elsewhere." Tamanar replied, thinking that it would be safest for the prisoners to travel with their rescuers when it was time to leave, "Though I would very much like to be involved in slaying the vile giants beyond those doors, revenge is not good for the soul. If my task is to watch over these here, I shall content myself that you will see it through on my behalf."

With that, he organized the former prisoners into a small unit to watch all exits and stood by one of the bugbear's gongs.

When all were in position, the Colonel threw open the doors. They were at the end of the cellblock and down a short hallway, and they opened to a room that was clearly a torture chamber. An orc lay chained to a rack, another to a wall, and there was a corpse on a spit over a fire. The room smelled terribly. Soft moans could be heard coming from a standing iron maiden.

No giants were there, but the state of the place seemed to indicate that they could not be far. Implements of torture were thrown on the ground as if recently abandoned. Across the room, were a pair of closed doors, and a hallway where there were other doors, only these were open.

OOC: I don't think we're going to see much more of this sort of thing in future adventures! Remnants of the past, perhaps, for better or worse.
