(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

While Gimlak spoke, Kahru and Tamanar opened the other cells. One held an old human merchant, another two of his caravan guards. One held a halfling woman, and one a human laborer. When they came to the second-to-last cell, a voice inside said, "Hurry! Free me. I have been here so long."

But the keychain did not seem to have the key, and none of the prisoners had ever met the occupant of that cell.

Kahru frowned when he discovered the last key was missing and looked back to the sealed door with the voice urging him to free it, was this prisoner somehow different to the other prisoners that they did not know him?

"identify yourself" he demanded, just as he had with Tamanar earlier and before Donnell moved to tamper with the lock "why are you here and how long?"

"So long. So very long." replied the voice inside, "And hungry. Will you feed us?"

Tamanar looked at Kahru and raised an eyebrow.

Doc was watching, leaning on the frame of the doorway to the "Keeper's" rooms.

He'd been restin' - taking a hoot off of his flask (he'd refilled it in the giant's kitchen, but the booze inside was weaker'n he'd like) an' he was smoking his dwindling supply of cheroot. None of it was enough, but it would be enough for now.

The sound of the voice was mighty familiar, like the folks that had gone lost in the Desperate Wastes. Not good for nothin' beyond puttin' down like an animal, afore they eat a rancher an' his family. Doc had seen it happen.

OOC: Short rest achieved! Update me on your status bars in the OOC.

Doc moseys on up to the Kahru, and after takin' a long drag off the cheroot, focuses his baleful countenance on his compadre.

Y'all might reckon that I'm about three faces short of a winnin' hand, but I 'member one thing the Sheriff told me. Doc, ya gotta kill the lost ones, and let the murderers go sometimes.

I didn't much cotton to it at the time. But the Sheriff had learned me. I never happened on a lost one that came back, but I met plenty of people that needed killin'. Murder is just another name justice, sometimes.

Ya open that door, reckon thar's death on the other side.

OOC:
Doc is ready to go. If the door is opened, he is prepared to shoot. Otherwise, let's go to the other Hill Giants.

"I don't see any reason to keep him locked up if we're freeing people. Maybe he's an ally." He pauses for a moment and shrugs, "But I guess it couldn't hurt to be ready."

Donnell attempts to pick the lock. He breaks a pick.

"Oh, darn."

After some time trying to get the broken tool out of the lock, he tries again. This time, he breaks another pick.

"Oh. Well. I don't think I can pick this lock. Maybe it's my picks? I haven't used them in a while...."

He mutters a curse under his breath and wanders off, staring at his tools in total confusion.

OOC:
pick the lock: 1D20+5 = [1]+5 = 6

try again

pick the lock: 1D20+5 = [1]+5 = 6

Wow. I rolled two 1s in a row...

As for character sheet, I'll spend a HD to get to full. Updated HP and stats are in Mini-sheet above.

The Colonel grunts as the parley concludes. In his mind, he has established that they will take the dwarves and leave the orc workers. "Should I come with you now to get the dwarves," he asks,"or will you bring them here? We appreciate your willingness to negotiate peaceably." He bows his head in respect, and will follow the stone giant archaeologist if requested (unarmed, as always).

He sees Doc stir, and if he is not needed with the giant, he will start to help with the prisoners (as always, cautious that some of them might be uncontrolled on release).

OOC: If I have mis-guaged the parlay please let me know.

If he gets the benefits of a short rest, the Colonel will start with 6 dice. He is currently at 33/73 (24+9 healing from Kahru), plus 6d8=27 + 12 (CON) = 72/73 woo.

OOC: The only thing you seem to have misjudged is that you have forgotten that you took all the dwarves away 'yesterday'.
OOC: Aren't there some left? I thought there were -- two being tortured and maybe others? I know we got most of them away, but I thought some were left. I'm sorry if I'm confused -- I think the Colonel all along believed there were som e we hadn't been able to rescue in the original batch.

"We will leave you and your work undisturbed. We hope to be gone from this place very soon. We appreciate your willingness to negotiate peaceably. If you know of any remaining dwarves, please tell us where they are."
