Tirion nodded. “Then to the rear it is,” he said. “Lead us around to the backside of the caves,” he told the werebear. “We will assault them from the rear.”

The female grunt with a nod of her head and leads the party through the hills. About 30 minutes later the group comes out of the hills into a small valley of sorts. The skinwalker heads towards another in what seem like and endless number of switchbacks that then opens to a rocky hill with a number of cave like entrances dotting its side. The female holds up her hand for the group to wait a moment and then starts sniffing around the various entrances. After a few checks she nods her head and waves the adventurers forward.

"I smell ork down this cave. I am fairly sure this will lead to their underground encampment."

She leads the way in but the cave turns pitch black within a moment (which the werebear seems to have no problems with)...

GM: OK you are at the 'back entrance' cave/tunnel. There is no light inside so those without darkvision are blind (heavy obscure). The militia people are not proficient really with Stealth as a group nor can any of them see in the dark. Also what kind of marching order do you want. The tunnel opens up that you could have two abreast though most of the tunnel...

Kelvyn pats his crossbow, "A hundred feet is close enough should we decide to try and fire the tents. A rear approach may be best."

Day 2/Afternoon (4:30 PM)

Tirion eyed the dark cave entrance. It wasn’t ideal for a stealthy approach, given they needed light, but he hoped the orcs wouldn’t be looking to the rear.

“Brak and I will take the lead,” the cleric said. “Levanna, Kelvyn, and any of your people that are ranged form up at the middle. Your melee people watch our rear. Now let us ask Pelor for his blessing on the coming fight.”

Tirion said a short prayer, raising his hands over the gathered warriors. At its conclusion, he turned back to the cave entrance and steeled himself for battle.

As Tirion ducked into the tunnel entrance, he pulled out his amulet of continual flame, illuminating the dark interior. He settled his shield on his arm, uncovering the holy symbol of Pelor, and pulled out his mace.

First Post
After a quick pray the group moves into the winding twisting cave tunnel. It is dark and clammy within the tunnel, with water dripping and a chilly breeze blowing from deep in the earth. The group moves through the twists and turns as quickly as possible. As they move forward, Evendur, gifted with superior darkvision, is able to see an orc sentient that is asleep in the passage way ahead. It is very easy to dispatch the creature, but beyond it the group hears the muttering, cursing and guttural tongue of orcs... a good size group from the sounds coming down the tunnel...

GM: I will probably robot Evendur, Brak (as Forge Fury noted that he might not be able to post until after the weekend), Cedric and maybe Alegast if we don't hear from Zeromaru when we get started here BUT depending on what the party does next there will very likely be combat a coming.

On hearing the distant sounds of the orcs, Levanna moved to shroud the orb atop her staff to smother the light. But she stopped, reasoning that it may do more harm to the group than good.

Instead she whispered to the villagers for silence. Unsure what else to do, as she was not a battle leader of any sort, she mentally prepared herself for the seemingly inevitable conflict and looked to her companions at the head of the party for what they intended to do.

Orc caves
Day 2/Afternoon (4:30 PM)

Tirion paused, turning to Brak beside him. “Shall we try and lure them into the narrow tunnels, where their superior numbers will not help them?” he asked the barbarian. “Evendur, can you sneak ahead and peek, see how many orcs you see? Pelor will guide you.”

The cleric said a quick prayer, resting his hand on the rogue’s head.

Evendur nods and disappears into the shadows. A few moments later he reappears and says

"Looks like one of their sleeping champers. There are about a score of the orc scum in there, about half are a sleep and the rest eat, drinking and talking. They are not very attentive, you might even be able to sneak up on them. There are three other tunnels leading deeper into the hills in the chamber, so if we give them warning one of them could easily run and alter the rest of the cave complex if there are more down here...

No sign of any ogre or magic-looking types.
"

GM: See rolls in the OOC, plus any Guidance bonus Tirion grants him. Evendur describes the sleeping cave or chamber as about 40ft across and roughly circle in shape, with three other tunnels leading out ofthe champer and deeper into the hills.

Kelvyn nods, crossbow at the ready. "I say we hit them quick. Maybe try to get to those other tunnels and block them before they can run for aid?"

Orc caves
Day 2/Afternoon (4:30 PM)

“Yes, that is a good idea, Kelvyn,” Tirion murmured. Twenty orcs, with potentially surprise on their side. He thought it could be doable.

Tirion went back to the farmers to explain to them what was seen. “We will rush them,” he said. “Stay together and watch each other’s backs. Stay as quiet as possible until the battle is engaged. Archers, target any orcs attempting to flee deeper into the caves. If we hit fast and hard, it will go well for us.”

Instructions given, Tirion returned to the front of the company. He tucked his amulet away to leave them only with Levanna’s light for illumination until the battle was joined.
