D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

OOC: AoO vs #1 [roll0], [roll1]

"Don't let'em get away!" Dellrak yells. "They just be sneak'n up behind ye later."

Looking for something else to kill, Dellrak listens to Rodrigo's stratagem, and nods. Looking to the right he sees two creatures and the group of ghouls fighting the roots and vines. Then he notices the monk backing away and he shakes his head. "Dat won't do," he says hustling towards Harb. "Come on monk, get back in this fight. Here!" he cries and puts a meaty hand on Harb's shoulder. "Let the ancients protect ye, as ye defend your clanmates!"

A warm light penetrates the monk before dimming fainter than the glow of a candle.

OOC: If it's not too late, I'd like to use my action surge to untie the rope. Separating three opponents seems worth it. Plus I have this cinematic idea in my head, and I'd like it to work!

Action surge (additional action and bonus action): Sleight of hand. [roll0] vs. DC 11.

Harb, Qawasha, Weed, & Dellrak vs rest of the Ghouls

Miss Imogen untied the tent's supports, but it had been improperly assembled. As hard as she leaned it toward her targets, it fell the other way instead. She crashed to the ground to the north and rolled to her feet, perturbed.

Harb smashed the head of the entangled ghoul with his staff and kicked it once for good measure. The creature lay still, held up by the writhing vines. Harb withdrew, returning to the dock where he met with Dellrak, who put a hand on his shoulder along with a spell of protection.

Two other ghouls that were within Qawasha's writhing vines, tore their way free and rushed toward the Chultan druid. Qawasha sighed, raised his walking stick, and it twisted into the shape of a significant cudgel. He stepped forward and allowed his companion, Kupalue to get away while he turned to face the ghouls with a gleam in his eye.

For a moment, he seemed to be doing well. He side-stepped the first ghoul's claws and beat it across the face with his cudgel. But then it was two-on-one, and Qawasha was thrown to the ground with two ghouls above him. Weed fled to a safe spot between the dock and the large canoe, and he flung a stone that hit one of the ghouls trying to eat his friend, but the ghoul ignored it, intent on its meal.

Chrysagon had backed off to stand next to Rodrigo, but the fast-footed man was already dancing away as a ghoul approached them. Rodrigo side-stepped the undead and smashed it in the knee. He was surprised to find how heavy the creature felt, and he just narrowly managed to dance three steps away as the creature reached its long claws for him. Only stumbling slightly on its damaged knee, it refused to fall.

GM: Whew. That was a lot of stuff to keep track of. NPCs are taking the brunt of this, damage-wise!

"Oh no ye don't!" Dellrak yells trying to distract the ghoul as he comes in axe blade swinging. The dwarf brings the now bluish glowing axe in an arc to drive the beast away from the prone druid. "Gets ups man! We not be resting yet."

Rodrigo's eyes darted left and right, taking in the whole battle. Miss Imogen's ploy was very clever, but it has, alas, failed. It was essential that she not be swarmed so she could offer support with her deadly bow. The right was holding. He had to help hold this portion and distract the ghouls.

He clashed his blades together, and in a melodramatic voice yelled "for the sticks!" as he launched a fleche straight at the ghoul's throat. The monster wasn't fast enough, and took the blade right in

third attack on the ghouls: 1D20+5 = [18]+5 = 23

He yanked the blade, momentarily closing it and giving a quick jab with his main gauche while sweeping with his left foot, trying to trip the ghoul again.

second trip attack vs ghoul: 1D8+5+1D8 = [4]+5+[2] = 11

NOTE: Ghoul must make a DC 13 strength save or be knocked prone

He took a quick step left (from AK to AJ) to get closer to Chyrsagon, and raised both blades into guard, ready for any attack or opening

NOTE: If attacked and missed, will Riposte. If attacked and hit, will Parry.

As the ghoul slumped in the vines, Harb reached out with a hand and seemed to draw some form of ethereal energy from the creature. This formed into a very faint aura about the monk.

At his temporary retreat, Harb had expected their guide to follow suit. Alas, no plan survives contact with the allies. Now he dashed back into save Qawasha from his bravery. A quick strike with his quarter staff was followed up by a knee and a punch to the ghoul closest to the shore.

Miss Imogen is frustrated that her plan had failed, as she sees her travelling companions overrun by ghouls. There are two close to her -- she'll attempt to draw them off -- but her first instinct is to shoot the one that's already wounded.

OOC: Bonus Action: Fighting Spirit gives advantage and 5 temp HP.
Action: Attack AI 24 with Sharpshooter. The better of [roll0] and [roll1]. If a hit, damage = [roll2] piercing.
Move: 30' north.
