D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

FitzTheRuke

Legend
After a good meal (which Tommi did eventually help the cook to prepare, much to the elves' ammusement), the group were allowed to move freely about the camp. It seemed that the Prince had about a score of elves, all told, who ranged through the Laughing Hollow and the foothills under mount Illefarn, mostly hunting orcs. The prince was young, and eager to make a name for himself. The elves were almost always friendly, if not entirely warm, and they were surprisingly informal with the prince (after the initial formal introduction) and nonjudgemental of the new arrivals.

The Daggerfordians were permitted to set up camp anywhere they wished and participate, or not, in any conversations, games, or entertainments that the elves were involved in.

In this way the group passed the evening, and in the morning Averiel offered to lead the way east out of the Hollow.

Tommi is up early, and by the time the group are set to depart, he has tried to shine his shoes in a way that the Prince will notice. His pack is slung over one shoulder; his sling tied loosely around his wrist; his pockets are full of rocks; and he is trying to remember one of the songs sung at dinner the previous night.

Angis settled. He was polite, but kept mostly to himself, watching the elves warily. They seemed to mean well enough, and treated the party well, so he finally settled a bit.

In the morning, though, he was ready to go, loading his gear into the cart.

Dandin takes the opportunity to talk up the elves and fish for some information. He does this his usual way, by telling the groups story and offering his wares for trade. He makes sure to espouse how they cleared the orcs out of the tower and left the hobgoblin banner as a Red Herring. And also their mission to check on Julkoun and scout for the hobgoblin raiders.

OOC: Not expecting to sell much, but anything helps make space in the cart. Also, if the elves have any non-bulky wares, Dandin will happily trade for a small cargo to bring back to Daggerford. But the primary purpose is information gathering, as that is the crux of our mission.

Legend
The elves laughed as Dandin told his tale and peered with keen interest at his wares.

OOC: What do you have to sell? I'll see if the Elves want any of it.

OOC: Just the loot from our trip so far. Doubt they'll want any of the orc or bugbear loot, but didn't we end up with some art objects from the tower or something? I really should ve the one keeping track. LOL

Tommi listens to Dandin's storytelling. It's a dreary tale, and it's not clear why he is spending so much time listing dwarven lineages. But he's so intent, so sincere, that even the elven prince is won over when it comes time to buy. Tommi has no eye for such business. He scratches the ear of the horse pulling the cart. He pulls out a carrot, which he and the horse share.

Legend
Much of Dandin's wares consisted of dwarven-crafted weapons taken from the Orcs. Dandin quickly learned that the Elves loved to hunt the Orcs, and so held many similar trophies. Still, a few elves were convinced that they couldn't have too many orcish trophies, and they bought some items using valuable gems and gold earrings as currency.

Making conversation with his patrons, Dandin learned that the Orcs were of the Clotskull clan, and they lived in the mountains, often raiding the few dwarves that remained in the mountains. The dwarves of the Ironeater clan had once lived under the mountain, and their king had ordered it abandoned some two-hundred years ago. The Ironeaters had moved to Daggerford and were among the best merchants, masons, and smiths of the city.

According to the elves, some had returned to the mountain, but they hadn't been seen in a number of decades. The orcs, on the other hand, had infested the mountains for years upon end, and the elves liked to 'thin them out'.

As the party had done some of their work for them, a handful of elves were keen to return the favour, and offered to join the expedition to Julkoun to see what these goblins were up to.

OOC: Dandin lightens the load by 30 pounds and makes 50 gp in gems, earrings, and a few coins. A handful of elves is four elves, though Averiel will probably come too, making it five.

“Great,” Angis said to Tommi as he helped hitch up the mule to the cart. “What do you call a group of elves, boy?” Angis only paused briefly. “Too many.”

Dwarves weren’t exactly known for their jokes.

Now it seemed they were to have an escort of elves. He supposed it would help, should it come to a fight, but he didn’t have to like it much.

“Let’s be gone while there’s still light.”
