D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Dandin

In thinking about the possible sale of the raiding boat, something occurred to Dandin that had not done so before: The river-boat that belonged to Janos and the raiding boat that they had taken from the goblins had been very similar. Strangely similar in construction: of equal length, breadth, depth. The same number of oars, the same mast. The only differences he could think of were in add-ons: the shield-wall on the sides; the ramming prow. It was curious.

OOC: I could tell you more with an Intelligence check. Anyone else in the group can roll it, too if they're interested. You can use investigation if you want to go back and look at it. Maybe in the morning, if you like.

Enseth remained alone at the stern, watching the boat disappearing into the darkness, in silence. "Why did they come? Was it just a random goblin raid?"

Looking down at his metallic hands dripping with blood, Enseth relive the combat. The fight was tight, four of us went down. His gaze stopped on his scratched shield and at this instant, he became aware of his true abilities and role. "Coincidences does not exist. Master Gwaereth did not give me those powers for no reason. If he waked me up at this very moment, all of this must be connected in some ways."

Then, is gaze fell on a black fabric laying on the bridge. The goblin flag, our trophy. As he picks it up, the emblem inscribed itself in his unfailing memory. The hobgoblin prisoner came back to his mind, "Maybe there is a way to find out..."

The cheering at the gates get his attention and looking to the crowd acclaiming the heroes, he thought "But I fear that it is only the beginning..."

As the celebrations angled towards a tavern, Dandin looks about for Bruno. Finding the old man he falls in next to him.

"Hey old-timer, how about I buy you a drink for steering us ought there?"

Dandin & Bruno

The old man smiled and nodded, "Better make it at the Otter's Run, I hear Davvy's gonna let us who lost our cottages stay in the commons until we can get back o'er and start to rebuild. At least we'll have a soft pelt to sleep on!" Clearly uncomfortable with the crowd, he shook his head and added, "No goblin's gonna stop me from livin' where I want to, and I love the Shinning's south-bank. City is nice, an' all, but I prefer my freedom."

OOC: I don't think I got to do this one before:
Places of Daggerford: The Otter's Run (Area 23)
The Otter’s Run Tavern stands near the River Gate and tends to be the first stop for anyone coming to Daggerford by boat. If someone wants news from the east, the Otter’s Run is the place to get it. An otter’s dried and stretched pelt hangs beneath the tavern’s painted sign, revealing that the tavern’s owner, a human male named Davvy Harga, also doubles as a furrier. The name of the tavern and its obvious connection to the owner’s side business has resulted in otters being a rare sight on the banks of the Delimbyr for leagues inland.

"That'll work, lets go get warm eh?"

Dandin followed Bruno to the Run and found them a table. When the server came up he offered up a silver for the round of ale. Then turned to Bruno and settled in for the discussion. "Say, you know boats, right? Did the one we took from the greenskins look familiar to you at all?"

Enseth follows the heroes as they enter the city, under the acclamations. But nobody was waiting for him, despite he was the oldest inhabitant of Daggerford.

As a construct, this manifestation of joy doesn't concern him, he only did what he was built for and he does not deserve any thanks for it. No, his attention is totally focused on the prisoners. He has to know the reason of their attack and he will.

While the men with the greatsword approaches and talks to Titus, Enseth searches his memory. [Face Recognition] > Sir Isteval - Paladin of Lathander - Purple Knight - Retired.

Once their discussion concluded, he stood before Sir Isteval and as he doesn't have any proper skills in social behavior, he awkwardly asked for a favor.
"Pardon me, Sir Isteval. Enseth, Model Number Seven, designed and computerized as a mechanized arcanic defense system, at your service. May I speak?

I have a formal request to formulate: If it doesn't interfere with any security measure currently in force, I would be pleased to be informed about any developments the questioning of those individuals may provide. Thank you. Have a nice evening, Sir Isteval."

Then, seeing his brothers in arms heading to the tavern, he remembered Lady Trista words "You'll need allies for such a mission to complete. Find a Tavern, that's where people meet, most of the time. And you'll need to find uninhibited people to balance your social deficiencies." It is his chance to find the help he was desperately looking for.

Tommi's feet hit the shore, and to be truthful, he's glad to be alive. He had sung with bravado, and a few of the soldiers on the wharf had kidded him when he came ashore ("Pick sum'fin be'er next time, Tommi"; "Some day you'll for the Duke, but not today!"; etc.). So he had been heard. He was pleased.

Sherren was there too, but he tried to avoid eye contact with her, so he kept his gaze down, or on the teasing soldiers, as best he could. He didn't want to talk to her right now. He'd have to tell her what had happened on the other shore, and the arrowhead in his trousers had left a clear tear, both in and out, as the the blood that had poured out has stained his leg before he'd been healed.

There was dirt and sand and mud on his back, but really, that wasn't so unusual, and a quick run of fingers through his hair gets much of the sand out. And so he skipped by her with his eyes averted, and locked instead into step behind Dandin. He was heading for the Otter's Run with an older man, and Tommi follows, listening in.

When the barmaid took the order, Tommi was right there behind them, pulling up a chair to their table, and he offers to help: "Hey there, Mona, let me help you carry the drinks." It's a cheap bid to get a free beer, but he thinks it should work. He leans over the table, "Bruno, is it? I'm Tommi. I'll be right back with our drinks." He then follows Mona to the bar and adds one for himself, before coming back and joining them.

Angis Honack
River
Evening
Round 0

Angis climbed out of the boat once they reached dock. The dwarven ranger looked a little worse for wear after the battle, bloody and bruised, but he was upright. He glared at the goblins as they were taken into custody.

“Be best jus’ t’ kill the lot o’ ‘em,” he told Lady Morwen and Sherren as the Duke approached.

Angis followed the others to The Otter’s Run Inn, gratefully taking the proffered ale and quaffing it down thirstily. “Bleedin’s hard work, kid. Drink up,” he told Tommi, getting another ale. “An’ gae see tha’ gel o’ yuirs. Celebrate breathin’ b’fore ye lose ‘er.” There was a mournful tone to the dwarf’s voice, and Tommi saw him take his ale and sit in a corner, pulling out a pink, feminine handkerchief from an oilskin pouch and sniff it.

Tommi, Dandin, & Bruno

Sherlen was happy to be too busy with the prisoners to talk to Tommi. She wanted to yell at him for being such a fool, for risking himself so. She tried to busy herself with her task, but she found herself looking at him as he spoke to various acquaintances who were congratulating him. He glanced her way only once, and she glared at him and he quickly looked away. Then she was dragging the goblins off to the prisons and she was able to put thoughts of Tommi aside, for a little while.

* * *

At the Otter's Run, the place was full of river-folk, and the tale of what had happened on the south bank made the rounds, growing as it went. Tommi was glad to find plenty of folk who would pay for his drinks. Davvy Harga, the owner, was even willing to forgive him his previous tab. He returned to the table to hear the old tiller-man answering Dandin's querry: "Yeah, I know 'em boats. Aside from the goblin piss and the way they banged 'em up. I'd know 'em anywhere. That boat was built right here at Sullerton's."

He was referring to the Shipbuilder's, which was one of the largest buildings in the city, right across from the River Gate.

"I was afraid of that. Maybe they stole them from farms farther up stream?" They seemed to have gathered a small crowd and further discussion seemed impossible for the moment.

Dandin decided to take the pressure off of his friends and 'maybe' make some coin on the side. Jumping onto the table he announced; "Alright! Who wants to hear the story? Get me something to keep my throat lubricated and I'll tell you everything you want to know!"

Drink in hand, Dandin told the tale as well as he could, embellishing only a little bit. Mainly to cover his own magical abilities, being known as an enchanter could be bad for business. Instead he described himself as more of an amateur swordsman who got lucky and managed to scare off a goblin by waving his sword around threateningly. For the rest, he made sure to put everyone else into the spotlight as much as possible. The nobleman Titus, Enseth the magical human-sized doll, Drui and Angus, sturdy and stern, tommi running up the coast and taking a couplenof arrows, Snake with his balls of fire, (Dandin describes this as making the goblins on the hill feint in pure fright), and Lionel chasing after the unconscious woman and nearly being captured himself, for his bravery. Then there was the mad rush to capture the boat and get away. He described an epic chase scene, arrows flying into their boat from both the other boat as well as the town, until Enseth raised a magical glowing banner and Tommi burst into song to let the city watch know it was just us coming home.

OOC: Or maybe he gets only so far until getting booed off. Heck of a time to roll a 2!
