D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Snake

Snake's senses perked up when an elf servant brought in a fish dish, but his enthusiasm was shattered when he found that this dish had also been cooked. Still, it was better than the cheese...

Enseth

Shalendra seemed amused that Enseth was so devoted to his builder, but she also felt it was just how things should be.

Titus shifted in his seat at the words. An Adventuring Company. Every boys dream.

So why did he remain in his seat, unable to join in the merriment? This is why he came out of Waterdeep, after all. He wanted to make a name for himself. This would surely do that. So why did he feel...insecure?

"Thank you for your generous offer, my Lord. We would be proud to serve Daggerfell in this manner."

What else could he say? No? At least the money could help him buy a few more spells...

Round 0

“Bah! Clerics!” Angis said with annoyance. “Wot’s that daft preacher doin’ preachin’ ‘bout goblin gods anyway? Naebody ‘ere’s a bluidy goblin.”

The dwarf shook his head. He poked at the fish dish. As a dwarf, he wasn’t a huge fan of fish, but had eaten his fair share out in the wilds. and he’d grown up in Westgate, on the sea. At least it had a nice beer-mushroom sauce. He did like his fungus.

“No’ ‘ungry, lad?” he asked Snake quietly, noting the tabaxi wasn’t really touching his food.

“I’m in,” Angis told Sir Isteval. “Those goblins need bein’ dealt with ‘fore they come lookin’ f’r more villagers.”

Snake looked over at Angis, his tail floating happily at the smell of the fish. “I’m not custom to such . . . delicacies.”

He grabs some fish and takes a bite, it is not as good as raw, but it was meat, “It takes time for my stomach to adjust.”

Later in the dinner, Tommi ventures to address Sir Isteval directly.

"Your honour, we are all grateful for this wonderful meal. When do you propose that the company begins its, um, adventure? Adventuring?"

He tries again, laughing at himself, "When do we begin, and is there a specific goal that you would see accomplished?"

Before answering Tommi, Sir Isteval finished chewing a well-prepared steamed vegetable. He chewed it slowly, giving himself time to think. "I'm of two minds on how to advise you: On the one hand, I think that it is vital that your company forms it's own decisions, and so I would answer 'whenever you like'; but on the other hand, the forces of evil wait for no man. These goblins, for only one example, are quite possibly torturing and murdering the good people of the Shining River even as we speak. And there are other forces out there equally bad or worse. This consideration would cause me to answer, 'you must act today; now! Nay, earlier - yesterday!'"

He smiled at his own exuberance, then sighed and said, "You can only act when you are ready. I suggest you begin as soon as you are able. As far as specific goals for this particular task, I think you should work toward finding where these raiders are coming from. We know it is not a horde just over the hill, thankfully. But if we can discern where they are (as opposed to where they are not) and their numbers, perhaps we can convince the Duke that sending a unit or two of militia to crush them would serve his interests."

"Thank you, your highness," says Tommi, not hiding his frustration at having misspoken. "Um, I meant long term -- Is there a specific goal that you hope for the company to accomplish? Or is our commitment to each other to be, er, as long as we live?"

He looks to Angis, and wonders how a longer-lives race would perceive these things.

Angis nodded at Tommi when he looked his way. The boy asked good questions. One of the Hardcheese girls refilled his mug, and he thanked the pretty little halfling.

“Aye, the gobbies are no’ gaein’ t’ wait ‘till we’re ready,” he had to agree. “But I’ll no’ take civilians oot wi’oot a wee bit o’ trainin’.” He looked at Tommi, Dandin, and Lionel. The tabaxi had arcane magic, which Angis knew little about, and he didn’t know about the shield guardian. As a noble, Titus had some training with a sword. “If we’re takin’ the boat, might be we should get ye a wee bit o’ practice in while we wait.”

Dandin noticed Angus's pointed look and grinned back at the dwarf. "I may be no great fighter, sir dwarf, but I've handled my fair share of miscreants. And now goblins, to boot. I've A sharp sword, and a sharper tongue."

Squirrels are evil!

“Aye,” Angis said to Dandin. “An’ all it takes is a hobgobbie wi’ a sharper sword t’ make tha’ tongue no’ sae sharp anymore. Rest no’ on yuir laurels, lad. Those gobbies werenae oot f’r blood tha’ noight, but pris’ners. We gae luikin’ f’r their camp, ‘twill be a diff’rent song they be singin’. ‘Twuild be a blessin’ t’ be killed outright an’ no’ sacrificed t’ their dark god.”
