D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (Dispensables)

Rowloe refuses to say any more, beyond insisting that he and his men had committed no crime. His associates follow suit, trusting that you will not murder them in cold blood.

"Well, that's that." said Corrah. "Let's use those fancy stones and get someone to meet me on the trail. If we get anything more from them back at camp, I'll get Imani to call you."

She thinks for a bit, then says, "You really gonna do it? It's a good way in, but if you're found out..."

NG (L) Human Sorcerer 1/Warlock 3

Size: M | Speed: 30 ft. | Senses: Passive Perception 13

Initiative: +2 | Armor Class: 19 | Hit Dice: 1d6+3d8+8+1 | Hit Points: 30

Spell Slots: 1st-lvl: 1/2, [W] 2nd-lvl: 2 | Concentration: None

Affected by: None | Conditions: None[/sblock] Calling Sesto back over to where everyone was debating the fate of the captives, Devan tossed the priest the sending stone he'd been carrying. "Here, you hang on to it," he said. "I have a bad habit of losing small objects." That wasn't entirely true, but he didn't want to deal with the responsibility of the thing. Better to let the chatty cleric handle it, he concluded.

"It looks like we've got two choices," Devan mused aloud. Having options was typically a good thing but sometimes it could muddy the waters. "The troglodyte caves or the main temple. Personally, I think we should still stick to our original plan and infiltrate through the caves. But I'll go with whatever the majority decides." The front gate was well-guarded and would require careful subterfuge on their part; he just wasn't sure if they could pull it off.

But there was only one way to find out--if they didn't choose the other route instead.

[sblock="OOC"]You guys post too fast for me. :p And I don't want to hold up the game. So Sesto gets to have the sending stone. (Hot potato!)[/sblock][/td]

Sesto lumbers over from his hiding spot and catches the sending stone. "No worries," he says, "I will look after the stone."
Sesto put the stone in one of his pockets while glancing down at the captives. "Corrah, can you take this riff-raff away so we can get going with our task. It is not long until nightfall and we better prepare ourself"

Without waiting for Corrah's reply, Sesto says: "I am with Devan — I also think we should stick with the original plan. Going through the main gate by deceit will be difficult for most of us, especially if this one," Sesto points at Rowloe, "is not with us. It will look very suspicious, indeed. Also, the 'backdoor' may be less guarded and we might get further into the temple before we are discovered."
Sesto looks at the others. "What do you think?"

"Hey, don't pocket that stone. Call Imani and get him to send me some help. I'll take these guys up onto the Ridge and keep them there until someone comes to get me... That way they won't have a chance to try anything. We should easily still be back in camp by nightfall."

She frowns for a moment then adds, "Then, if you get any proof of a crime, we can take em to the magistrate when you get back."

She has trouble hiding the if you get back hidden in that sentence.

She gathers up the men, kicking them, tugs at the ropes to be sure that they are still tight and tells them to walk 15 feet ahead of her.

Before she leaves, she considers the men she has travelled and fought with. "I liked the idea of you going in through the front door, but you guys might just be too honest. Honesty is rare. I'm glad I met you. Oh, the way across the river is that-way, just at the top of the fslls - there are somr good rocks to jump across. Don't fall in!"

With that, she waves fondly and turns back to the prisoners, "Move, maggots!"

Bobranthus shrugs and nods to Corrah. "Take care, we'll go and start bashing the heads of evil!" With that, he turn in the direction indicated and strides off in search of the river crossing.

Squirrels are evil!

Sesto is feeling annoyed. "What a bossy boot! I'm sure she has a stone of her own", he thinks to himself. Still, Sesto obliges and sends for help. To Corrah, he says: "Thanks for your help. We had better get going now."
Once he has done that, Sesto hesitates and wonders what the genasi brothers are thinking. "Bob seems to have made up his mind so why wait longer?" Sesto thinks and sets off after Bob.

Location: Road Switchback, 1 hour 40 minutes to Nightfall

Sesto uses the sending stone to contact the Wizard Imani.

After a brief discussion, it is decided that the opportunity to try a deceptive entry to the Temple through the front door is too good a trick to pass up. With that in mind, Imani dispatches a group to the Switchback to retrieve the wagon, and give the idea a shot. The group will travel with another, smaller group to pick up Corrah and the prisoners, and should arrive at the switchback in just under an hour.

Terrus decides to join that group, and to guard the wagon while he waits for them.

The rest of the group, "the Dispensables" will continue on to the Trog Caves, and give that entrance a go.

With that established, farewells are made, and the Dispensables head to the river crossing.

GM: Before Group Three starts, Terrus will have a short rest. If the Dispensables insist on one too, it can be done, but then checks will have to be performed to arrive before nightfall. It's up to you. Either way, I'd like one character, whoever is best at it, to roll Survival, with Navigation Tools (stacked, if you have them/are proficient) just to see how quickly you can get there. Feel free to discuss who will make the check in the OOC.
