Interesting Arcane Archer question...

You're an Arcane Archer, you imbue an arrow with a Fireball spell, then shoot it at someone and drill him with the arrow. Does he get a Reflex save against the Fireball? If so, how the heck do you explain that?

I think I just discovered a badass way for AA's to tag pesky high-level rogues and monks with area effect spells for guaranteed full damage....

HIGH LEVEL ROGUE: "Mwahahaha! With Improved Evasion, at *best* you can only do half damage with an area effect spell!"

ARCANE ARCHER (fires an arrow Imbued with Fireball up the Rogue's ass): "Evade that."

Boom.

Hmm...

So, what you're saying is that it is unrealistic to dodge a fireball blast emanating from an arrow in your chest.

Unrealistic. Fireball blast emanating from an arrow. :)

Actually, you sort of have a point, but incorrectly assume that just because an arrow damages its target, the arrow is embedded in the target. D&D combat and hit points do not work that way.

But...
where does it say that the point of emenation of the Fireball is centered on the arrowhead? Imbue Arroe says you "place an area spell upon an arrow." It could very well be emenating from the fletching, or the shaft.

The Fireball spell itself involves a small bead which bursts when it reaches its target point or when it hits an obstacle. Do you allow a wizard to make a ranged touch attack to hit someone with the bead, thus negating the reflex save?
