Trailer Lanterns | Official Teaser | HBO Max

THe cartoon "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" did a better job of introducing both Thor and Captain America (and their worlds) in 22 minutes than those movies did in 2 hours.
I would argue that they did detract, because there was the baggage of poor concepts afflicting--um... "Informing" the actors, writers, and director, not to mention the audience.

I think Captain America did well with the material that it had - It wasnt a great movie, but it was good enough especially as the movie had to deal with the fact that the original Captain America was at his core a Pro America Propaganda piece, and a Boy Scout that needed to be introduced to a cynical audience.
I think they did well to encapsulate the propaganda role in its USO vignettes, before having him disobey orders to "do the right thing". It was nice way to both honour the characters origins but also to break it by showing that he wasn't just propaganda fluff, it was his choice to be a hero and set him up for the frozen in ice for 70 years time jump.
Winter Soldier is the best MCU movie because it took those same elements of heroic boy scout v cynical audience and put him in the middle of a corrupt system where he could shine as the heroic balance that the modern world needs.

Thor I agree was a bit naff in Kenneth Branagh's hands, the first movie v the Destroyer Golem was mediocre and Dork World is forgettably boring.

We should probably stop talking about Thor, sadly.

I'm interested in this trailer and series. I totally get the Hard Travelin' Heroes thing, which is just a really great idea for both a superhero comics series and a superhero TV series. Kyle Chandler is looking pretty OK as "old ex-test pilot whose ego is STILL writing cheques his ring can't cash" and Aaron Pierre looks good as "discipline and art guy who's not quite as ready as he thinks he is". Let's see if Kelly Macdonald can do a decent Nebraska accent. Looks like they've got casting for Sinestro, not sure whether he'll just be in flashbacks or whether he's actually behind things here.

Huh. I wasn't even aware here that the original version of John Stewart was an archetect. I'm so used to the animated JLA version where he's ex-military.

Im not sad at all, id actually be pretty happy if folks stopped the Thor talk in here.

It does have a Men in Black meets True Detective feel from the trailer and I cant say I don't like that. I have no idea what a "lantern" story is supposed to be like. I never read the comics or watched any of the cartoons so im probably less sensitive to
"doing it right".

After all the too cool to be too cool for school talk on swearing, I went back and watched the trailer again. It does feel like a double blast from Hal implies hes going to be dropping f bombs constantly. I hope they dont beat that into the ground as they are wont to do these days. I gotta call foul on the Sheriff though. That seemed entirely appropriate. That was a direct mind your own business threat. Not a request to move a parked car.

My gut tells me that Sinestro is going to be flashbacks to Hal's training. The have definitely cast another villain, from what I can see.

Even the JLU version mentioned having trained as an architect IIRC, as well as being an ex-Marine. John really is a complete package.

Getting back to the trailer, I'm not expecting anything good. Last "New" shows I enjoyed were Burn Notice and Person of Interest. Mandalorian started off well, then suffered from higher management interference.

You say: Getting back to the trailer, and then you start talking about other shows rather than saying anything about Lanterns. lol.

So, out of interest, did u not like Andor? or have you not watched it?
