Let's talk about play by post gaming!

The code of color is an easy way to identify what the sentence is suppose to be.

For example, when I write something, I use:

"I quote and put in yellow the speech"
I italized and put in yellow what I think
OOC: I put the OOC header and put in red all the OOC comments
Roll: I put the Roll header and put in Lime all the rolls I do
All description stay normal.
When I speak a language that a plyer may not understand, I put in as spoiler.

The only thing I find a bit sad, it is everyone have his own unique code. I would suggest to create a standard code. It would not be required to follow it, it would simply stay a suggestion, but if many people start to follow it, other will follow in the move, and we may finish with a standard color code for the board. I think it is important to say it is not mandatory to follow it, just suggested.

I personally don't see the need for color-coding. Descriptions of actions stated normally, "Speech goes in quotes, as is proper in the English language," and (OOC comments in parentheses or brackets] seem to work just fine. I mean, you can read a novel all right, and that's what they do.

I think it would be great to have a sticky thread for open games, so those (like me!) looking to join a game can find one!

Of course, that requires GMs to go back and close out their post when their game closes...

True, but what is confusing, it is how everyone have his own code of color and, for example, when my character think, I put is in italized while Thanee use italized for speech. That may be confusing for a third party who don't know each person format. Anyway, it is a suggestion guideline and not a rule that I want to see. The no color code is well enough and if you prefer like this, no one will stop you.

Hmm, I haven't actually seen italics for anything other than thoughts and telepathic messages. Then again, I don't have games in common with Thanee. I think italics being thoughts is pretty common.

I don't think a standard for spoken colors is good. Usually, every PC and most major NPCs get their own color. Especially the NPC color helps identifying things.

I don't really like the whole color code for talking and such. For me, at least, it distracts me from what the person is DOING and draws my attention only to what's they're saying. I simply "Use quotes" and sometimes space them out to make it more noticable.

Of course, I started playing PbP games on my own message board back before I know about ENWorld. We simply typed like we were writing a story, and anything OOC went ((in double parenthasis)).

I haven't seen it done but does anyone remember in BG how you could have people doing certain things, attack the closes enemy protect others, heal at 50 % hit points etc.

It might be hard to implement "scripts" but if you inform your DM/GM on what you want to do in most circumstances then it will speed up combat massively. If something strange or unique comes up a simple stoppage in play while round by round actions can take place.

When it comes to pbp online dice rollers stink, who in their right mind wants to have about 12 links in their for one round of combat? I would rather have my DM roll for me, as this works well for me while at work, and I trust all of my DM impeccably.

All payers/DMs should have their email address in their profiles, I've seen few if any who do not but sometimes one needs to get a hold of them in private for either character concepts, something a characters notice, etc.

[Note: I've seen "scripting" in Endur's game to a limited fashion but then again we don't need it all that much as we all pretty much post 2 or 3 times a day]

Tsk tsk... must maim your character now for being naive.
;) j/k.
EDIT: um, are you in any of my games? must check..

I quite agree, which is why I usually request that Players in my games don't use colour coding in their posts..
"SPEECH"
THOUGHTS
ACTIONS
( OOC: )
work fine if u ask me. the colouring and sizing, etc, is there for added effect and flavour, IMHO. I may use

DRAGON
once in a while for effect, however

Well, I also use the thoughts-in-italics. I generally put everything that is written from the direct player perspective (that is speech and thoughts, for descriptive text, prose form seems to be common) in italics, with speech being colored to make it stand out.

Bye
Thanee
