While reprinted, these races have all been updated to the current standard used by WotC for D&D races used in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, including a free choice of ability score increases (increase one by 2 points and another by 1 point; or increase three by 1 point), and small races not suffering a movement speed penalty.

really? I didn't know pre the 80's he wasn't a daywalker... my first exposure was in midnight sons.

Very unhappy about #2. I liked the fact that Elves tended to be a little faster than Dwarves. It made playing different races feel a little different.

The practical issue though is that choosing a shorty made you slow down the entire party. You're just kind of a millstone, like a 3e Paladin.

It really didn’t. Overland travels times in 5E are not based on movement speed in combat.

It does if you have a decent sized combat map and you're waiting for the halfling rogue to come support but he can't because 'verisimilitude'.

That's ok. The encumbrance rules would probably let the fighter carry three or four fully equipped halflings without any I'll effect.

Very happy about #1. I felt Aaracocra's fly speed was a bit too good.

Wild Elves and Air Genasi and in spurts Tabaxi are still faster then Dwarves.

Sunglasses can easily overcome Sunlight Sensitivity.

Sunglasses of the darkened lens type were invented in the 1100's in China (there's also the small slits in goggles type used by the Inuit even earlier than that), and seem to have been around in Italy sometime in the 1400's, so it wouldn't be a stretch at all that sunglasses could exist in most D&D campaigns which exist in the assumed default period of Late Medieval/Early Renaissance. The small slits in goggles type would exist in even less technological settings.

You want to not be slow? Play a medium character. Or a monk. Or a barbarian. Plenty of options there.
