Looking to create a good aligned Necromancer type.

Argent Silvermage

First Post
Hi,
I'm looking to make a good Necromancer class. sort of a Spirit singer. the class/ prestige class would be based on the concept of a person who is tapped into the astral planes and able to call aid from it. they would also have the ability to cast Positive energy versions of the traditional negative energy spells from cleric and arcane magic. any help would be greatly appriciated.

Actually the good point of making a good necromancer is that the use of necromantic spells are somewhat corrupting. He has to struggle for his entire life with some dark power in order to use them for good.

I know that this is just theory and there is no apparent use of an enervation spell, apart from killing evil creatures, but at the same time i think that a good necromancer should have this spell, and actually being tempted to use. Perhaps mixing a wizard(necromancer)/Cleric(Healing and Death domains) you can have the same results without building a completely new class or PrC.

Thanks!

My Idea is for a Prestige class for those Necromancers who have found the ballance between the positive and negative energies. my thoughts are this:

1) being able to convert the power of the harming spells into those that either heal or energise thosde they are used on.

2) A mage who can contact the dead who are of not evil. the "raise dead" type spells he would enstill positive energy inside them and allow the "bodies" to remember a bit of who they were.

3) some one the community would look up to not be afraid of.

how does that sound.

HE HE HE Besides... everyone has done the "i'm using the powers of darkness to fight evil" thing to Death!

LOL

Acutally, the heart (haha) of necromancy isn't evil. it just seems to end up that way. while raiseing up undead armies to kill innocent people might be evil, there are many good uses for necromancy. talking to dea people to solve a crime, restoring life energies that weren't meant to be taken. healing spirits and othe random good things you can do. i remember this came up in another thread and there were some very insightful responses. i'll try and find it for ya.

Sword and Sorcery made an expansion on Hollowfaust, the city of necromancer. It is a very good Pdf.file, and will give the idea that a city ruled by necromancer could not be a meeting of evil wizard who want to take control of the world, but a nice, organized, city, ruled by specialist wizard...

...of course they have undead patrol in the city, but it sounds normal to everyone to not make a work somebody else could do better (and there's still a living police force).

There are also some new PrC for every classes. For wizard necromancer there one (between others) that gives the ultimate power of destroyng undead with a touch.

Perhaps you should find it if your ideas is makin a "good" necromancer...

shaman?

This is probably way off from your character concept, but someone who speaks with spirits, channels positive energy, and is looked up to by the community, sounds an awful lot like a tribal shaman.

I'm playing a shaman right now in a second edition game. I believe it is a "kit". Basically I don't prepare spells in the same way that normal clerics do. Instead I summon various spirits, each of which can grant me certain powers which must be used immediately or within 24 hours. I can also make a few Talisman that protect the wearer with one spell, lasting 24 hours (so far I can make a Prot. from Evil and a Barkskin Talisman). As I gain levels I will gain new spirits and new talismans. My spell list is very limited and spirit-oriented (augury, speak with dead, etc.)

I had thought of a Shaman type character but I want specificly to speak to "sentient races" not animals and such.
but thanks for the info.
