LOST - bad season, or terrible season?

I sometimes wonder what's wrong with my social group. We were all fans of Lost for the first 4 seasons, but now we basically think it's terrible (with just enough glimmers of the quality we used to enjoy for us to keep going) while most of the internet loves it.
But seriously, the ending, with Sun and Jin dying, and neither of them saying, "Hey, maybe one of us should survive for the sake of our child"? And both of them speaking in English? And the sweet romance they've built up for 6 years ending with a symbolic 'nope' when they drift apart after drowning? It just hit so many bad notes.
Or why the sub is 5 minutes deep? They wanted to get away from the island, not dive hundreds of feet. I mean, I get that the sub getting a hull breach and all that was a cool idea dramatically, but it was shoddily done.
It's like the first few seasons were done by Da Vinci, and these last two seasons have been by that white guy with the afro who teaches you how to paint on PBS.
(Also, minor nitpicks: "Hey Locke, could you take your invincible self and sweep this area near the docks for an ambush, since we're all so important?" I mean, Locke could even give them a cockamamie lie about why he can't do it, but at least someone should ask.)
(Or, Kate, unable to reach the key, looks up and remembers, oh yeah, I climbed through the roof of this cage before!)
(Or alt-Jack being a gigantic d*** to alt-Locke. Hey, your dad's as good as dead. Now cheer up and let me fix your spine.)

I'm liking the season too, but it does show evidence of writing sloppy writing at points, such as RW noted. My guess is that they're focused on "wrapping things up" and forgetting to hit the grace notes that make things more believable.
My main beef is that they dragged Sun and Lapidas around that Island for weeks for no real purpose, only to unceremoniously kill them with no real payoff. I can maybe understand with Lapidas: He was necessary as long as the plane was their way off the Island, but once they gave that idea up, he was no longer necessary as a plot element. But the Sun and Jin thing needed a much, MUCH better payoff. Then again, maybe we'll get the payoff in the alt-verse.

So they killed off all the non-white characters? Way to go. This show is definitely chum, along with Desperate Alewives, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and Brothers and Brothers. Finding out this was Bob Newhart's dream would have been more preferable.

I like the season, and last night.
