Nope! No complaint noble monk! On one on one, a monk should have the upper hand as I always suspected.
Am waiting for @Esker to comment.
I have a feeling he wont.
Or it'll be Schroedingers Fighter.

I suspect as much too. A monk, when one on one, is a terror to behold. Just because he can do all his pretty stuff at the same time if needed be. The mobility the monk has is its greatest asset.Im not sure why he went an Archer.
GWM + PAM would have been far better.
Although I could have just kited him so I get why he went the archery route.
Experience. The will have learned that it is easier to destroy a sword than kill the person wielding it.And the Goblins know the HP and AC of the fighter and his sword HOW exactly?
In regard to Crawford's tweets regarding breakable items, it's worth emphasizing that the vulnerability of objects is first and foremost a DM tool, not a player facing mechanic.

You're dead.
The don't need to know the AC and HP, the just need to know that swords are easier to kill than fighters. How!!!!
How on earth do the Goblins know the HP of their enemies? Most of their enemies (i.e other Goblins) are easier to hit than their weapons and have less HP than those weapons.
You have that backwards. Again I say: if it works for monks it works for gobins. If it doesn't work for goblins it doesn't work for monks.A DM that does what you're suggesting is a metagaming jerk that doesnt play his creatures as realistic monsters.
I think in any opposed scenario, whether you're attacking the weapon or the opponent, there will not be automatic success. That is considering that the weilder will oblige and let you do it. I bet my two cp that it is not so easy. And, by a quick pull, you might just hit the blade of the polearm with your bare foot. A nasty cut you get there...
Makes sense... but then the Monk is out of Ki points
