Monster Builder still FUBAR?

[rant]Only WotC would create a monster builder that deleted monsters.[/rant]

While I did back-up all my creations as PDF files, there are more than 100 monsters I need to retype if I am to use them with the functionality that I originally expected.

The reason I backed them up was I fully expected that WotC would screw-up at some point, just as they have with every other piece of software they have developed internally.

Afaik, they haven't with the Character Builder - yet.

True but that has very different architecture. While I am no propeller-head, I am certain that having the data files for each individual character saved in My Documents rather than within the programme files is a much better way of protecting user-generated content.

And, of course, it meant that there was no need to create a patch to, inter alia, allow the export of custom monsters.

Your Rant against WOTC is unfair, after all it is clearly marked as BETA. Doing so much work in an unfinished program is just reckless and according to Murphy's laws it guaranties that all your work get lost! :p

After all, BETA means that all types of problems can happen and you should only use it for testing...

Baumi beat me to it.

Wizards knows, we know, and you should know that it isn't a fully functional piece of software yet.

That said, it's very sad that folks have lost a lot of monsters. Now that there is an export facility I recommend exporting all your custom stuff before updating. That should at least leave you with a file that is salvageable.

Look I'm sure another "Don't blame the user" post will follow this but: expect beta software to fail! The application is blatantly unfinished, and if you want to live a risk-free life, wait for the release version.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and say-

'Yeah I have never had any other buggy software ever before ever, only WotC could make buggy software!'

[rant]This is from the man who has had his Thursday night Battlefield 2 Clan fights end because, after 5 years, the bugs still ain't gone. And oh that latest patch meant 2 guys that didn't have problems before now have random CTD! [/justified rant;)]

And the monster builder works fine for me on my DT and laptop.. XP Pro

Yeah, it's Beta, but it has been said by Wotc that our custom monsters would be safe.

I wasted a lot of time including custom monsters and monsters from 4E Creature Collection to sit, smile and think "it's ok, it's Beta".
