Level Up (A5E) Monster preview thread!

It just reads really awkwardly. It's not a complete sentence, and it doesn't have a separator (like a colon) to mark the description (which isn't capitalized) as separate from the title. Similar for the Senses entry. Other entries seem to use a period at the end of the title descriptor, and/or capitalize the description block.
That's actually standard for D&D this edition:

The Jackal-were looks cool! I really like the aversion to truth, but I don’t like that it’s a save…as that can get too onerous with long conversations (and the players are going to get suspicious when the DM rolls d20 after d20).

I think it’s cooler just to straight up they can’t tell truth, that becomes a fun challenge for the DM to roll.

In the Jackalwere stat block, it has:

This the D&D 5e standard stat bock format. Not saying it can't change, but this arrangement has been standard for a while.

Nonmagical, nonsilvered weapons is a dramatic improvement over "bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical weapons" becaus it covers a nonmagical torch, a nonmagical weapon that does a nonstandard damage type, a nonmagical flask of acid, and potentially* even spells cast with a nonmagical nonsilvered focus item.

* Doing the same with spells needs to be balanced from the outset however, o5e does not do that with martials dramatically surpassing casters in damage against both creatures not resistant to nonmagical bps or resistant to it while wielding a "magic" weapon. Given the spells & abilities we've seen it might be too early to guess if this will be the case or not without having seen equipment details yet

Okay as an English teacher, I believe we have 18 monster sneak peaks left. With 8 weeks left, we could have about 2 monsters a week. That is if I have done my math correctly. 🤪

I assume that this is the replacement for the SRD-unfriendly mindflayers. If so, it's definitely an interesting creature--it's focus on aligned and holy/unholy creatures is possibly unique. I'm slightly confused by it, though: is their sole purpose to reproduce, or do they have a more dastardly goal in mind? Do they have a culture that focuses on anything other than reproduction?

Yeah I couldnt tell if they are humanoids with wasp heads - like the pic - or if they are wasps that possess/use humanoid bodies (like the Intellect Devourer) or if they are wasp-bodied that just explode the victims head and then dump the corpses

I think it's the first of those, based on the first paragraph. But beyond that... it would be kind of neat if the adult form gained a power or some knowledge based on the abilities of its host as a larva, if the host was aligned. As it is... they're kinda just monsters? They could definitely benefit from a few more paragraphs of text on their society.
