more evidence of warrior women!

Interestingly, men who have lower levels of testerone are far more aggressive than men with normal or greater levels. It's one of the things you can find out if you know people who work in psychiatric hospitals.

I know that can be the case, but I don't think it's always so - eunuchs are not noted for their aggression, although they can be excellent soldiers - I think Ottoman Mameluks (sp?) come into this category. I wonder if men with lower testosterone also have more variable testosterone levels, which might explain it?
In any case my point was more that young men tend to be more directly aggressive than young women, whatever the reason, and also being on average stronger and with more of a pack mentality are typically better suited to the warrior role than most women, although in modern armies there are plenty of combat/support roles women may actually be better at on average, once cultural factors are discarded.

Joshua is correct in that what we often assumed to be true does not always remain so. In one instance that I recall reading about, the Egyptians claimed victory over the Hittites at Kadesh and it was accepted as truth by Egyptologists. Further studies showed that the victory was at best a draw, if not a defeat. (It is very late in my time zone, so if someone knows the details, post them.)
IIRC, it was a draw that Ramesses II sold as a total victory.

Actually, there are a number of well-known Japanese women who took part in battles or fought notable contests with male samurai.
*nods* On a similar note, I think there were female palace guards in Korea. (To protect noblewomen, IIRC.)
