This is the first time the public has gotten a look at the software outside of small demos at previous conventions.

D&D's 3D virtuial tabletop.
You can now watch the unveiling and demo of the upcoming 'Project Sigil' -- WotC's new 3D virtual tabletop -- as it was used during the official Dungeons & Dragons live event at Gen Con.

The event featured Aabria Iyengar as the Dungeon Master, Anjali Bhimani as Miri Yannen, Samantha Bèart as Karlach, Brennan Lee Mulligan as Dorbin Kragstone, and Neil Newbon as Astarion.

This is the first time the public has gotten a look at the software outside of small demos at previous conventions. The VTT demo is in the second half of the show.

UPDATE: THE VTT IS USED FROM 1:16 IN THE VIDEO!

Did we see an area attack spell? There is a breath weapon with lots of dice and it does seem to hit several targets, with damage indicated for each.

I don't recall seeing one, no. I would have liked to see a template we could figure out where to aim. We did see the acid breath weapon line. It went at both.

Overall pretty impressed with what I saw at this point in development, certainly seems like it's ready for public playtesting (I can imagine there were quite a few people on the development team sweating bullets during that 90 minutes). Think it was smart of them picking Abria to DM this as she is know to like breaking the rules of play, and the system was able to handle it smoothly. Also loved that they had a TOM combat prior to that to reinforce the notion that Sigil can be used as part of a session and not needed for every scene.

Seemed at the end that they didn't intend for Karlach to get hit with the dragon's breath weapon, I wonder if it's possible/easy to undo something like that when it happens?

Looking forward to getting my hands on it this fall!

I'm not the target for live play watching, but I have it on on my second monitor to see what we can see....so far, it is you know, people doing live play stuff.....
Same, but I gotta say I find it extremely amusing that we are going from "watching people sit around a table and play a game in their imagination" to "watching people sit around a table and stare at their laptops."

They barely stared at their laptops at all. There was still plenty of not looking at them. YMMV, of course, but I didn't get that vibe.

Same. At the very start of it they were looking at the screens a bit more, but with 20 minutes it felt very similar to people looking at a battle map on a kitchen table.

One thing I did notice was that all the play was on the ground. I was hoping to see some 3D movement, wondering if that's just not quite ready for primetime yet, but honestly it's the biggest feature for me to move off of a traditional 2D online platform.

Were they primarily showing the DM view on the back screen? You could see the players screens in front of them from time to time, and I'm wondering if everyone can see the realitive health levels of all the combatants, or just the DM?

Also, I actually don't like exactly knowing what my PCs heath is at during combat, so I'm hoping that's a feature that can be turned on/off.

No idea on the first part. I was wondering if everyone saw the same thing.
