(OOC) The Dog Days of Doom

You did misunderstand:

Detect Magic just lets you know the type of magic but not the spell. It doesn't even tell you the source fo the magic is a trap. With a difficult arcana check, I let you know two things:

1. It's a Ward/Trap (Abjuration)
2. It's a Ward with communication - this is the gravy. Communication isn't a type of magic but instead it's the flavour of the Abjuration. It's a hint of what might happen when you trigger the trap. IE: It won't explode but it will do something else instead.

Magic traps are disabled with Arcana. Max(or someone else) still has to do a proper investigation to find the source of the trap. You are assuming it's a magical trap because of your detect magic.

Yeah, you can grab a 2 foci but those are locked up behind the glass. There are no valuable (GP) spell components in this room. So nothing for Find Familiar is in here.
Nice! So for some reasons my spider senses are telling me that maybe its an alarm spell or magic mouth. Regardless, we don't want to trigger it. So Max indeed will attempt IC an arcana check.

To make sure I understand: the foci are also inside the cabinet warded by the communication abjuration magic and the scrolls are easily accessible in the drawer, right? I'll wait for your confirmation and will post IC.
Cheers,

SG

Yes to everything. The desk is like a display cabinet, which is warded and locked and with a valuable book and a few different foci and a couple magic scrolls. On the bookshelf behind the desk agains the wall, there are a bunch of papers stuffed in individual cubbies. A couple of those papers glow magic.

Before you jump the gun, I’m sure Deidre would inform Benny and Anson there’s a zombie on the other side of the door. So we will assume Benny knows. If you still want to try to deactivate the ward, go ahead or you can wait.

In any case, both Anson and Max can make an investigation to locate the source of the magic(with advantage because Benny can help using detect magic). If they find it, Max can disarm it.

Question: Do sphinx have fingers and opposable thumbs? I’d not, it might make doing the disarming more difficult.

Yes, Deirdre signals to the others that there's something behind the door and that they should remain quiet. They can tell she is intends to go inside to try and dispatch it quickly, and hopefully relatively quietly. Feel free to lay a hand on her shoulder to hold her back if you rather not have her engage.

I'm going to bed and will post at some point tomorrow. I'll wait until everyone declares their actions.

  • Deidre is about to rush in the room and attack a zombie
  • Caer is hiding
  • Not sure what Benny is doing but Max may or may not be attempting to disarm a trap. (he needs to make an investigation check first and Anson can make one too. But I wasn't sure if you're waiting until you attack the zombie.

And Stratus and Havoc can declare what they're doing.

We got quite a bit done today!

No, they are a cat with wings. I just happen to have one too - for the same reason, it is the only celestial available - the description is not quite that explicit, but all art makes it weird cat with wings.

okay. They will have a hard time disabling traps, magical or otherwise.

@FitzTheRuke DC10 stealth to move the bodies. It’s pretty obvious from your perception there is something in the next room

Double post:

I know this is a pain, and I’m sounding like a broken record but it just literally came up in another pbp.

Please post your mini sheets.

In another game, my cleric is asking - again - the whole party who needs healing and reminding them of a comment I posted 4 months ago.

“Who needs healing”

I know it’s hard to remember mini sheets but it will also be handy for every other player who has the capacity to heal. I find with pbp, you can ask people if they need healing but posts get missed etc. and the turn around for someone to say, “I could use healing” and then the post that has the actual healing is a week in real time.

and it slows combat:

Or “I heal Max”

3 posts later, “max doesn’t need healing”

“Oh, then I attack instead.”
That little thing could represent 3 days of waiting for people to post.

it’s so easy to just look at people’s mini sheets, see their hp and @ them with the healing. We have several healers in this party so it helps them as well as the dm.

Hopefully it’s not too much of a pain for everyone

Per the IC ask - yes, Deirdre wants to take out the zombie but is waiting for a nod (or action) from one of the others before entering. She has her sword out, so it's clear she intends to go inside and hack at it with some divine fury...:)
