LOL. Bob didn't actually open a door. He I just waited for the bad guys to spill in through the darkness and die horribly... Then charged in to beat on the bad guys until finally succumbing to his wounds.

Squirrels are evil!

Oh I know it wasn't Bob who opened the door.

BTW, you get my private message?

So... It may come as no surprise to you that I am unsatisfied with how standard initiative works with play-by-post. I don't like waiting for people to post. I don't like how long it takes me to resolve rounds (sometimes an hour or more of solid work). I don't like partly repeating what you say you do and partly overwriting it when I resolve. I don't like it when someone's turn becomes pointless because everything has changed between the time they post and the time it's resolved.

So I want to try an experiment: Initiative = Order of Post. I will post whenever I find the time, responding to whoever has posted at that point. When I do, I will do a turn for some of the Bad Guys (usually the ones responding to the PCs who have gone.)

I will put a list of who has gone at the bottom of each of those posts. Don't take another turn (though you can add to the story by responding to whatever the monsters have done to you or comment OOC if you need to. Just don't take another action until everyone has gone.

The only trouble I can foresee is that slower posters will always go last. But at least when you post last, you will know that the previously posted stuff actually happened already. It'll just mean you won't get to go if the fight is over already. But then, why should we drag a fight on for a few more posters when it already ended, right?

Does this sound okay to everyone?

Whatever works. It does negate the role playing aspect a little. As in, my character reacts faster than I do, as shown by the fact that I have a 20 in Dex and the Alert Feat, giving me a + 10 to initiative!

In this case, your initiative doesn't matter, so builds that focus on it are obsolete.

That said, we don't really have anyone who focused a lot on initiative, and the typical initiative doesn't really work with play by post unless everyone is posting. I'm all for trying a "first post, first go" Initiative.

As for resolving things as we go, honestly, that exactly what I do, so I say go for it.

I will say that you keeping track of how much damage everyone has taken has been amaz-ah-zing.
