D&D 5E Out of the Abyss IC

Solace stood frozen looking at the empty closet. This had been her destination, and she had been sure there was purpose in proceeding here. To this spot. And the journey, a short journey of a few dozen paces, had nearly killed her.

Raza's hand touched her arm, and she pulled back, as her blood pressure dropped, and she felt the wash of a wave of unconsciousness crash against her. But she withstood it, and like a breaker being washed away she remained standing.

"I'll be fine," she says to Raza without turning around. She is not sure if she says this aloud.

She takes a step into the closet, and searches for anything useful.

She then rejoins the others.

Raza cast a glance at Brinn and Kago, assessing whether either was injured. Brinn looked as fit as he had when the company departed Velkynvelve. He didn't seem to have sustained any injuries in either fight. Kago, however, looked worse for the wear. Cuts and bruises marred his hide, and a sheen of sweat skimmed his skin.

The other escapees from the drow outpost ventured into the cavern. Turvey skittered after Solace, but didn't enter the closet. Jimjar and Shuushar moved past Kago and Raza, into the center of the cavern. Stool beelined for Brinn, who stooped by the stream bank to test the water. He dipped in a hand. The stream was icy, but felt and smelled clean. Brinn deemed it drinkable, even if his hand felt near frozen after a mere two seconds of being submerged.

Solace entered the closet. There wasn't much inside, but her careful eyes found a false wall to the east. Once she'd detected the ruse, she passed a hand through the wall and confirmed her suspicion. A space lay beyond the false wall. The truth wavered before her. A short narrow hallway of worked stone led to an open but unlit square-shaped 15' room with, she thought, a ten-foot ceiling. Inside the room, a line in the shape of an eight-pointed star had been etched in an inch-wide groove on the smooth masonry of the tiled stone floor.

With Brinn at the stream's bank, Kamael clambered up the earthen berm. The light went with him, gleaming brightly. The climb was ungainly; loose bits of dirt and rocks made for poor footing. When Kamael finally gained the top of the berm, his hands were covered in dirt, and so were his clothes. He could make out two areas to the south that seemed to lead elsewhere in the cavern, one south and west on this side of the stream, the other south and east across the stream on the water's edge; perhaps these were caves in an of themselves? Kamael made for the ladder and started to traverse it. A few steps in, his foot went clean through a rotten plank. Kamael struggled to regain his balance.

Kamael caught himself before he fell overboard into the stream. Toeing the ladder lightly, he quickly picked his way across and safely gained the opposite bank.

OOC: Anyone else traversing the ladder will need to make a Dexterity saving throw DC 13. There's now a gaping hole in the ladder that just made it more difficult to use it to cross the stream. Failure means you fall into the stream. I'm open to your creative solutions to crossing, either by the ladder or via other means.

Brinn picked up Stool and vaulted over the length of the ladder, landing nimbly on his toes in a crouching position on the opposite bank. Stool, clearly uncomfortable without his stodgy feet on the ground, hopped down but remained at Brinn's side.

OOC: Where to, lowkey13 and Yavathol? Also, what are Solace, Raza, and Kago doing, Kobold Stew, GlassEye, and industrygothica?

Kamael gestured for Brinn to go in front, his mind somewhat preoccupied with how he was going to get back across without falling in.

The small group walked around the perimeter of the cave, looking out for danger, food & treasure. When they got to the door, Kamael pulled some caltrops from his pack and tried to push them into the jam in order to wedge it shut. The other caltrops were scattered on the ground by the door.
