D&D 5E Out of the Abyss IC

Solace, who'd begun carving up the land octopus, found her way inside the creature to a thin-membraned pouch containing what looked like ink. There was plenty of flesh to eat. From experience, she knew the tenderest cuts were likely to come from the smaller tentacles. Some of the suction cups on the rocktopus's main tentacle were the size of her palm.

OOC:
So in order to avoid losing the full rest, it sounds like either Kamael should cook it during his watch and everyone eats in the morning (or when they come on watch); or we leave it until morning and eat then?

Basically, I'm going to complete my watch before passing it on to the next person (and quietly and gently remonstrance with Shushaar for falling asleep), but I can probably cook and keep watch at the same time!

OOC: A nice open space with a little room.. I'm thinking maybe making an extended camp. Kago can make some water before he starts resting, in order to regain the spell after the rest and do it again after so we'll have something for the road. So maybe take a 10 or 12 hour rest instead, just to do what we need to do and get all the ducks rowed up.

Raza nodded at Kamael when he came to consciousness then turned her gaze on Kago.

"Looks like your god still has use for him."

Raza wandered over to where Solace was carving on the octopus. She pulled out her knife and cut herself a sliver of the creature and chewed it silently. Maybe it would be better cooked. She seared a piece in the fire and ate it. Better, but she was still tired and she should be sleeping if she was going to keep watch later. She shrugged and returned to her spot in the sand. Curled up, she looked like little more than a pile of rags. "Wake me for my watch," she muttered. Moments later she was snoring quietly.

[sblock=OOC]Raza is having a quick bite, then going to sleep.

"I shall, mother," says Solace to the aged Raza.

She continues to work at the meat, saving and roasting what she can. As she works with the flesh she notes that there are barnacles of a sort -- not sea barnacles, but some speluncnal creature, that has built like an aggregate between the octopus' limbs. She cuts around those, and hammers the flesh, tenderizing it where she can before roasting it in the fire.

OOC: "Speluncnal." Cool.

Kamael lit a blazing fire, and he and Solace set to work grilling bits of pulpo for tomorrow's walk. The rocktopus was bland, blander than its sea cousin, but still edible. It was better charred over Kamael's fire than it was raw. The remainder of the long rest passed uneventfully, with pairs alternating turns on watch.

Shuushar, upon waking and meditating at the culmination of the long rest, offered to no one in particular, "We are close to Sloobludoop. Today's walk, and then we arrive, I should think." The kuo-toa shifted his head to peer at Kago and blinked twice, slowly. "We do not often have...guests. You must prepare yourselves." He did not elaborate what he meant, choosing instead to rise from his lotus position and stand at the southern end of the passageway.

OOC: You've all completed another long rest, and gain the benefits of it. GlassEye, I don't know if you've called the pace for the march yet. I think you haven't. Even if you have, go ahead and call it now, please. Slow, normal, or fast, your choice.

Raza considered Shuushar's admonition to prepare themselves for the kuo-toan city. If all kuo-toan were like Shuushar then it would be a quiet and strange place to be. Raza hoped Shuushar had enough influence that he would be able to host them; if not, they might find their stay in the city difficult. She mused on those thoughts for a bit longer then pushed them from her mind. They'd find out soon enough.

"We've food in our bellies and a day before we reach Shuushar's city. But before we go, did anyone check out that crevice in the rock where the creature came from? I'm curious to know if it nested here."

If no one checked it out, Raza will look for the crevice it slithered from and see if it had some sort of nest there. If necessary, she'll use a spider climb spell to quickly explore it.

[sblock=OOC]Fast speed, please!
With food from the rocktopus available, Raza feels Goodberry isn't needed at this time and keeps her currently prepared spells.

Before setting out, Raza had a look at the stalagmite from which the rocktopus oozed. She spotted a two-inch open fold in the ligature of the rock and peered inside. There did, indeed, seem to be a hollow space inside the stalagmite. Perhaps the rocktopus made its lair there.
