Raza Thulcandra

Raza stared at the narrow fold in the rock. She just wasn't strong enough in the ways of the Mother Night to alter the shape of the rock; she would have to approach this from a different perspective. A smaller perspective. She turned to the others in the group.

"My goddess will bless me with a new shape to examine this crevice. I will not be pleased if you stomp on me, so watch your step. If I haven't returned in 15 minutes then I am unable to return and you should go on without me."

She turned back to the crevice and called upon the power of Tabla and changed into a spider. Transformed, she tried to slip through the narrow passage for a quick look. Raza didn't think the rocktopus was the sort of creature to collect treasure but Raza was curious and wanted to see if there was a cave and nest beyond, large enough to fit her true shape, or maybe a just passage. One never knew when such information could be useful.

" While we are waiting, Shushaar, please tell us some things we should know about your city! Who rules it? What are its main sources of food? Is slavery legal there? And are there any cultural things we should know, like obscene hand gestures or what happens if we mis-pronounce Slooldipoop? "

Kamael sits comfortably on the floor giving Shushaar his full attention and trying to read his body language. Now he has spent several days with him, he has some idea how an evasive or deceitful kuo-toa behaves.

Raza changed form into a twelve inch spider with a hoary carapace and eight black spindly legs. She clacked her mandibles, reared up once on hind legs, then hared off for the crevice in the stalagmite, hoping to discover what she could of the rocktopus's lair. She wasn't disappointed. Easily fitting inside the crevice, Raza realized the interior of the stalagmite consisted of a natural hollow. At the bottom lay a heap of half-digested garments and trinkets. It didn't smell good in here. She found a bony talon hanging from a cord of leather, a mechanical blackbird inside a wire cage, an intact glass jar labeled "Griffon Grease" containing a thick white paste, a tiny gnome-crafted music box with a hinged lid, and a perfectly intact goose egg shell decorated with bits of velvet and ribbon trim depicting scenes of misery in disturbing detail. There also appeared to be a spintered small wooden box, and four scattered brass items. In her tiny state, Raza was unable to manipulate any of the items, but her compound eyes took in details not easily seen otherwise; the round flat disk with the spindle arm sticking off to one side had queer markings, the like of which she'd never seen.

A round lump under the pile of rags caught her eye. She scurried between rag layers and discovered a smooth orb of thick glass filled with what appeared to be smoke. The orb was heavy enough that she was unable to move it.

Shuushar blinked once slowly at Kamael. The kuo-toa spent an overly long minute considering Kamael's questions. Right when Kamael decided the frog-priest hadn't heard him and was considering re-asking his questions, Shuushar began rumbling a placid reply. "Sloobludop sits on the eastern edge of the Darklake. My people know the lake's channels well. Its waterways are labyrinthine, and navigation treacherous unless one knows the runic system of markings. Swimming is ill-advised. Though, the lake is a source of good things to eat. Ah, but you inquire after the city, and not the lake. Sloobludop is ruled by an archpriest. Really, it is less a city and more a congregation of perhaps five hundred of my kind. We are comfortable in the water; some of the settlement is under water. Other buildings are connected by interlinked walkways and bridges." The kuo-toa paused and blinked twice. "They are narrow. Not unlike the walkways at Velkynvelve." Shuushar's mentioning Velkynvelve was the first time anyone had named the drow outpost. "You will find that only one or perhaps two speak your tongue. We prefer our native Undercommon. We speak with our hands. I have observed that some of you surface dwellers also speak with your hands. Certain gestures mean things that you would be advised to be cautious about. I am sure, for example, it is not in your best interest to wave. Or to scratch the hair on your head. Take pain to never stand in a position on higher ground than the archpriest. He is called Ploopploopeen. We show deference by permitting him the higher ground. My folk are vigilant against intrusion. There are likely to be patrols. If we encounter one, you must not react. Perhaps I can risk something and gain us audience with the elders, rather than be slain outright."
[sblock=Kamael]Shuushar has been forthright, offering much detail about Sloobludop. Kamael believes, however, the kuo-toa has left out detail.[/sblock]

Jimjar hovered near Brinn. The deep gnome seemed to want something. Finally, Jimjar huffed in exasperation, stuck his hand in a pocket, and pulled out a scroll tube. He waggled the tube enticingly at Brinn and garbled something in Undercommon. Brinn made out, "Trade...map...drow...out...gold?" The deep gnome appeared to be proposing a bet, but just what he offered and expected Brinn couldn't quite make out. Solace, who was up and about, overheard Jimjar's offer.
[sblock=Solace]"I propose a wager and a trade. I have here a map I nicked from one of our captors. It shows the location of a tomb, I think. The she-spider will draw first blood at our next encounter. If I am wrong, the tube is yours. If I am right, you will give me something." In typical svirfneblin style, Jimjar did not specify what Brinn might offer. He seemed to be waiting for Brinn's reply.[/sblock]

Raza Thulcandra

Raza gazed at the scattered items with a deep satisfaction. Maybe they were worthless, maybe not, but for the moment she had a secret. And, she was surprised to discover, she planned to share it. She looked around the hollow trying to determine if she changed back to her normal form if there would be enough room for her in the hollow. If so, would she be able to push the items through the crevice? She considered before acting.

[sblock=OOC]If Raza thinks she will fit in the hollow, and if she thinks she'll be able to push the items through the crevice, Raza will change back to halfling form, push the items out, then reshape into a spider and leave. If she doesn't think either of these things are possible, she will exit the hollow to retake her form and tell the others about the items inside the rock.

In Raza's estimation, it would be a tight fit but there should be just about enough room for her to fit inside the hollow after abandoning her spider form. Maneuverability would likely be an issue, but she thought she could at least grasp and push objects out through the crevice.

Raza Thulcandra

Raza-spider moved those things she was able to move closer to the crevice so that they would be positioned better for when she resumed humanoid form. And then she changed. The space was tight and constricting and she nearly panicked but she bent her head as near to the crevice as she could and called out.

"I'm pushing some things out. Pull them through as you can but be careful, some seem fragile."

Then Raza reached down, felt about with her fingers until she felt the first item, and began feeding the items through the crevice. She pushed as many items as would fit through, and then with great relief shifted back to spider form and scuttled from the hollow. She heaved a great sigh of relief when she resumed her humanoid form.

The mechanical blackbird inside the wire cage would not fit through the crevice, but everything else did. It was unclear how the wire cage got into the stalagmite to begin with.
