Solace slowly creeps back to her companions, urging them to douse any lights for the moment. She explains what she has seen.

"I am prepared to try to sneak to the bottom of the ledge and hide, right below the waiting creature. If I can do that successfully," she offers, "it would be possible for you to raise a light to draw its attention, drawing it towards you, with me on the other side. If I am seen, then I have provided the distraction you will need."

She knows it's not a perfect plan, but it's what she has for now.

"Hold on a moment, I have another idea! I know a spell which will allow me to talk to you without anyone else hearing, and for you to reply to me. How about if you, and maybe Raza, sneak up close enough to be able to identify it, while I regularly keep in contact with you?

Then, if the creature is likely to be hostile, Kago, Brinn and I, with light, approach, but we will be ready to take cover and not surprised. You two can then climb up and surprise it while we distract it - how does that plan sound?"


OOC: If agreed, Kamael will use Message every 3 rounds or so, to keep contact with the scouts.

Raza Thulcandra


Raza listened to the plan and nodded her agreement with Kamael.

"Solace should not go alone." 'Unless she wishes to die alone,' Raza added as unspoken afterthought to her words. "We'll go at a slow pace to ensure things are in place on our terms. Be ready."

Raza looked to Solace, saw the younger woman was ready. She quickly pulled out the flat piece of obsidion given to her by Kamael and spoke a few low words in Elvish coupled with a few arcane gestures. The stone cut into her palm and she smeared a streak of blood onto the other palm and on the soles of her feet. Readied, Raza followed after Solace at a slow, silent pace.

Solace and Raza crept forward. Raza's spider climb let her creep along the passageway's uneven walls and ceiling as she liked. Solace positioned herself directly beneath the part of the ledge on which the creature stood. In the intervening minute or so that she'd retreated to confer with her colleagues and returned, the creature hadn't moved. At the present moment, its head was turned toward the opposite direction as it gazed impassively down the passageway. Solace and Raza made out a kuo-toa guard of sorts, with a pincer staff in its frog-like hand. There appeared to be only the one. For now, it seemed the creature noticed neither Raza nor Solace.

The rest of the party remained well back and around a bend in the passageway, with the light doused.


OOC: The message spell has a range of 120', but is blocked by more than a foot of stone. There is a bend in the passageway that will preclude the spell working its full range. If Kamael wants, he could go stand at the bend and peer around the corner. That'll incur a risk of being spotted, so I'll want a Stealth roll to accompany that action if he takes it.

Let me know what everyone is doing, please.
 

Kamael stealthily and slowly inched forward, hugging the wall as he approached the bend since he knew that he didn't have to get a line of sight to the creature, just a line of effect for the spell to penetrate a few inches of rock...

OOC:
Using the rocks & walls as cover will hopefully mean the area is heavily or lightly obscured.

Kamael edged forward toward the bend in the passageway. He was careful to keep his body pressed tightly against the rough rock of the tunnel wall. Poking his head around the bend, he could make out Solace and Raza. The creature, however, was harder to spot. Other than Solace's position, nothing more than a deeper shadow gave tell where the creature was.

OOC: The darkness alone means the area is lightly obscured to creatures with darkvision. Kamael will likely get a situational bonus for sticking to the wall.
 

OOC: may i that when when we realise its a kuo-toa, we send Shushaar in to talk & see what reaction he gets & what he can learn, if you all trust him?
 

Raza Thulcandra


Raza stopped. A kuo-toan border guard. She considered then reached out, touched Solace's arm lightly, and when her attention was on her, motioned towards herself then back towards the rest of the group. Raza turned and moved silently back along the wall until she reached those waiting back.

"The lurker is a kuo-toan guard. A border guard, one would presume. Perhaps Shuushar would come forward and speak with him."
