D&D 5E (2014) Out of the Abyss IC

The kuo-toa on the ledge did nothing for the moment. More creatures gang-pressed in the passageway on the opposite side of the bonfire. Kamael, Brinn, and Raza thought there might be six additional kuo-toa over there. While there was an exchange of unintelligible clicking sounds--an odd sort of speech--no one launched an attack against the party. The creatures seemed reluctant to approach the fire. Finally, the larger of the two kuo-toa on the ledge croaked in Undercommon, "Put out that fire, sorcerer, or we will harm you. You will come with us, bound, for presentation to the elders."

OOC: Kago's up, industrygothica.

Kago didn't understand the undercommon tongue, but he did understand hostility. In fact, he was proficient in it. Too long since a good fight, he hefted his shield and hammer and plodded slowly through the corridor to Kamael's location, making no attempt at being silent. After seeing the unarmored humans, he wanted the fish people to see this well-armored orc ready for a fight. Staring through the flames, Kago rolls his shoulders and cracks his neck to each side. Kamael might notice a hint of a grin.

OOC: Double move to G11.

End of Round 1, start of Round 2

Kago stalked forward, taking his time and posturing to maximum effect. Several of the kuo-toa on the opposite side of Kamael's bonfire shrank backward away from the orc war priest. Turvey, who had crept forward earlier, shrank a little away and pressed himself against the wall. Jimjar hadn't put in an appearance, and neither had Stool. Shuushar moved out of Kago's way, then spoke to the pair of kuo-toa on the ledge. [sblock=Undercommon]"Please, friends. Do not do what you contemplate. We will trade information on the drow for our freedom. We would gladly go with you to Sloopbludop. But not bound."[/sblock]

OOC: Make an Intimidation check, industrygothica. I'm mindful that Brinn, Kamael, and Solace declared readied actions. As of the end of Round 1, the triggers for those readied actions did not occur. If you still wish to hold off acting, for clarity's sake I'll want you to re-declare a readied action again for Round 2. Brinn's turn, lowkey13.

Kuo-toas 1, 2, 3, and 5 shrank away Kago's fearsome guise. The largest kuo-toa (the one on the ledge) did not move, however.

OOC: Kuo-toa 1 disappeared into an extraordinarily narrow tunnel on the ledge. Kuo-toa 2 is now in A15, 3 is in A16, and 5 is in B16. Raza's turn, GlassEye.

Raza considered then sheathed her dagger and stepped out of obscurement. Sometimes a tool that had lost its usefulness needed to be discarded. She hoped this wasn't the case today.

Raza walked up to the kuo-toan guard. "I submit." She turned to glare at Brinn. "Would you make enemies of these people? Should you make enemies everywhere you go, you will quickly discover you have no friends to give you succor when it is needed. And how do you treat untrusted strangers in your homeland? It is not too great an imposition to abide by these restrictions. Or would you rather retreat towards Velkenvelve and scavenge for your next meal?"

The lone remaining kuo-toa whipped around his head to Raza's position when she stepped out of hiding. The hands holding his trident tightened marginally, but relaxed when Raza appeared to submit. He didn't, perhaps, understand Raza's tongue, but her body posture and lack of a drawn weapon spoke in lieu of words.

OOC: Solace is up, Kobold Stew. The full reaction of the kuo-toa will come on their turn, immediately after Solace. EDIT: Apologies, I forgot Kamael's turn. I'll take an action from both Kamael and Solace, Yavathol.

With Raza having stepped forward, Solace decides to stay in the shadows. There's just one koa-toa left in sight, and though she doesn't understand Undercommon, she will fire either if her colleagues attack, or if this one makes a hostile move.

Kamael catches Raza's eyes, "There is a big difference between making enemies and blindly walking into captivity!"

"Shushaar, please translate again: We will willingly accompany you to the elders, but please understand, having just escaped from drow captivity, we will not be shackled a second time! Can we reach some compromise? I am willing to peace tie my weapons and casting pouch, so it will be obvious if it is used but we still have some ability to defend ourselves?"

OOC:
Mainly talking. In case it helps, [roll0]

Just in case, ready an action to acid splash any kuo-toa within range if combat ensues
