Solace yanked her lock picks from the door and broke away to stand on the start of the rope bridge. Kago, who'd moved up and healed Solace while growling at her, had a clear pathway to the door to the stalactite. The door, however, remained locked.


OOC: Solace removed her lock picks from the door and stopped applying pressure to the door, but the door remains locked. It's a Strength DC 15 check to break through the locked door. Alternately, using a set of lock picks to unlock the door will be a Dexterity DC 12 check. If you have a set of keys, no check is required. Kago's turn, [MENTION=23298]industrygothica[/MENTION].

Kago eyes Solace as she moves away, then flinches at the banging on the other side of the door. Starting to understand the situation, he watches Solace take a combative stance. He turns his gaze to the Quaggoth, who is still uncomfortably close to Kago, and then back to Solace. He nods and takes a half-step back. Once more with a quick glance to the others, and he plants his right foot into the hinges.

End of Round 1, start of Round 2

Kago had had enough. He kicked at the door's hinges, and sent a spray of door pieces flying. Kago, Solace, Kamael, and Raza noticed that the door wasn't made of wood. No shards of wood flew; rather, the pieces that broke did so in larger chunks that didn't splinter the way common to wood. Ragged sections of the door hung wildly akimbo, affording Kago and Solace a view of the interior of the stalactite. The view wasn't new to Solace--she'd seen it half a minute earlier before she'd jammed shut the lock with her picks. Dark silk mats with a pale web strand pattern woven in silver thread covered the circular floor. A very large black spider with glittering jet eyes perched atop a broad pedestal across from the broken door. An altar to Llolth occupied the north side of the room. A pair of heavy silver candlesticks sat atop the altar tabletop. To the left was a heap of cushions. To the right was an open trap door in the floor. In the center of the room stood none other than Asha, unbridled fury in her eyes. Kago's blow to the door knocked her backward five feet, topping the broad pedestal. The spider perched on the pedestal fell to the floor, shattering...a statute. Blood dripped in a thin trickle across Asha's top lip from a nose bloodied after Kago smashed the door into her face. A drop fell onto the breast piece of her scale male, leaving a single rosette splatter. Asha's eyes flicked to the blood drip, then to Kago.

Kamael was first to react, and he did so the moment Kago smashed in the door, before Asha was knocked backward. He cast acid splash at Asha, who failed to dodge out of the way. A bubble of roiling acid formed and burst in the center of the room, raining down vitriol on Asha, who was struck for 1 point of damage. The acid ruined the bank of pillows skirting the wall of the interior of the room, and out of the ruin of silk and stuffing rose a giant spider. The creature was nimble, and leapt out of the way of the acid even as it crept along the side wall toward the doorway. In nearly the same second, Solace loosed a hand crossbow bolt at Asha, hitting her for 11 points of damage. The bolt buried itself in Asha's shoulder, leaving a gaping hole in her pauldron.

Plain Quaggoth was through the ragged door in a flash, striking Asha in a frenzied rage of claws, and dealing 14 points of damage. Yellow Quaggoth raised a shaggy arm to pummel Brinn, but the crash of the breaking door convinced the beast that perhaps Brinn had the right of things; the quaggoth shambled over to the winch and began helping crank. Brinn hopped back in the basket. The quaggi proved both strong and adept with the crank--the basket lowered more quickly than normal. Up by the northern end of the outpost, Shuushar continued ambling along the narrow ledge. He creaked open the door to the guard room by the quaggoth cell, and grasped hold of a 100' coil of silk rope. He spied something on the floor, and smiled to himself with a pleased, "Ah, good quality rope gives twice a blessing." The kuo-toa bent over and examined his find.

OOC: These squares are available for a medium-sized or small creature to stand inside the stalactite: R23, Q23, R21 (the giant spider is on the wall, not on the floor), and Q21. Per Yavathol's instruction in the IC, Kamael cast acid splash as his readied action. I rolled Solace's readied action/attack and included sneak attack since Kago was standing within 5' of Asha when the door blew her backward five feet. Apologies if you'd already rolled, KS; I didn't immediately see an attack roll for Solace in the IC or the OOC (I didn't look too hard, though). Blue Quaggoth got a natural 20 on its Athletics check to lower the basket, so the basket will be lowered two rounds' worth instead of one round's worth. It had already been lowered one round (Brinn had to jump to get back in), so it'll be down to the chasm floor at the end of Round 2 (assuming another successful Athletics check...a failure will result in the basket becoming stuck mid-air like a ferris wheel).

Kamael blinked in surprise at the efficiency with which the orc took out the door, but quickly moved up and along the ledge. As he did so, and relieved to finally to be attacking his captors, he blasted the enemies that were visible through the doorway before stopping next to Solace.

Kamael hit Asha a second time with acid splash, for 3 points of damage. The acid clung to the skin of Asha's face. A clump of acid-eaten scalp dislodged from her crown, taking a section of long silver hair with it, and leaving a bald patch on her head. The giant spider crawling along the northeast wall, however, proved to be tricky to hit; Kamael missed the spider.

OOC: A map update will need to wait until this evening. Note to self: Asha -30 hp. [MENTION=23484]Kobold Stew[/MENTION] (or anyone else trying get in a ranged attack on Asha), with Kamael in T23 and the poor angle/lack of line of sight through the open door, Solace needs to reposition herself if she wants to make another ranged attack. With the crowding near the door Raza is unable to get into position to throw flame at Asha or the spider. She takes a few steps closer to Solace and stops.

"You did good keeping that thing pinned within until Kago could get here to deal with it." Raza looks out the corners of her eyes at the other woman and speaks softly. "He didn't hurt you did he? You injured his pride; that's a dangerous thing to do. And they speak ill of scorned women. Ha!"

Raza shifted closer to Solace on the rope bridge and prepared to throw a glob of the fire in her hand if a shot cleared to do so.

OOC: Brinn's turn, [MENTION=6799753]lowkey13[/MENTION]! He's in the basket riding down to the chasm floor right now, and if the quaggi at the winch have a successful Athletics check, will gain the chasm floor at the end of the quaggi's turn this round. If they're unsuccessful cranking the winch, then Brinn et al will be stranded mid-air in the basket a la ferris wheel. I'll allow a readied action (would take up Brinn's Action and Reaction slots this round), but not a delayed one (there's no Delay in 5e).
 


Round 2

Asha stepped past the quaggoth inside the stalactite, and exited through the door. As she did, Raza recognized the moment had come when she had a clear shot. Raza flung the tongue of flame she'd been holding in her hand, but the spell failed to penetrate Asha's splint mail. The flickering flame sputtered and died, its light extinguished. Asha spoke words of power in Undercommon as she strode from the room, and wove a spell sigil in the air. A wave of thunderous force swept outward from her. The giant spider suffered from the wave of force and was knocked off the wall into the center of the stalactite. The Plain Quaggoth remained standing and in place, but looked shaken. It clawed at the Giant Spider, hitting and dealing 13 points of damage. The Giant Spider shrank in on itself, its legs curling in death throes and viscera leaking onto the stalactite floor in pullulating puddles of green ichor.

Up on the platform, Blue and Yellow Quaggoth continued working the winch, but a knot in the chain tangled the works and prevented the basket from lowering any further. Brinn, Stool, and Jimjar were caught in the basket, suspended twenty feet above the cavern floor.

OOC: Raza's produce flame spell is snuffed. Kago [MENTION=23298]industrygothica[/MENTION], Kamael [MENTION=33284]Yavathol[/MENTION], Solace [MENTION=23484]Kobold Stew[/MENTION], and Raza [MENTION=40413]GlassEye[/MENTION] need to make a Constitution saving throw DC 13 or take 16 points of thunder damage and be pushed 10' away from Asha. A character who makes their save takes 8 points of damage and is not pushed. Kago, Raza, and Yavathol have the spell Asha cast on their spell list and therefore know she cast thunderwave. Solace really has no way of knowing and therefore is not entitled to an Arcana or Religion check to know what was cast (let me know if you think she's entitled to a check, it'll be Arcana or Religion DC 13 check. Additionally, I need [MENTION=23298]industrygothica[/MENTION] and [MENTION=33284]Yavathol[/MENTION] to roll percentile dice...both of you are standing off the rope bridge (which has a banister of sorts) and on a ledge, and are therefore at risk of being knocked off the ledge. Roll high, please. A roll of 25% or lower indicates that you fall from the ledge onto the webbing, with the caveat that Kamael has a chance to fall into the waterfall and all the way down to the chasm floor if he rolls an 11% or lower.
