"The Case of Castle Frankenstein"
.
You are all sitting comfortably in a sofa in Van Helsing's sitting room. It's dark inside, although
it's a bright day outside, but all the windows have been concealed by large thick curtains. The
fireplace is hot and in flames, which gives the room a creepy atmosphere, especially
because of all the occult relics which hang on the walls, as well as crucifixes and mirrors.
There's a single tall electric lamp in front of the fireplace, which seem oddly out of place.
Van Helsing, old and grey, arrives, pushed around in his wheelchair by Jeeves, his butler.
Jeeves positions the chair under the lamp, explaining the lamp's odd placement. Van Helsing
coughs violently into a handkerchief and Jeeves hands him a oxygen mask, from which
Helsing takes a deep breath.
"Jeeves, tell Doc that our guests have arrived will you. Tell him to grab the Van Krieger file
with him."
Jeeves nods and leaves the room. Van Helsing struggles to turn the chair to face you, but
rebukes violently any attempts to help. After scanning you all with his eyes for a moment he
gets straight to business.
"You have all read Mary Shelley's excellent book 'Frankenstein' have you not? Or at least
seen the moving picture from a couple of years back? Yes? Well, the book is not all fiction.
Actually from what I've been able to dig up quite a lot of it has strong ties in reality. From
what I can tell Mary Shelley, or Mary Wollstonecraft as she was known as then, travelled a lot
with her young lover, a poet named Percy Shelley. On one of those trips the sailors told her
the story of a man they saved while stuck in ice in the arctic sea and his terrifying monster."
Just then Jeeves walks back into the room, closely followed by the man known only as 'Doc'.
He is often present at these briefings but rarely speaks. When he does, he does so with a
thick east coast yankee accent. He always dresses the same, in a white suit and hat, the only
colour contrast being his black tie and shoes as well as dark round shades. Even his hair is
white. He always stays in the shadows and non of you have ever seen him up close.
Doc hands Jeeves a file folder, who puts it into the hands of Van Helsing.
"Thank you Jeeves."
After browsing through it a little he pulls out a old tarnished photo of a young man which he
throws in your general direction. You take turns in studying it.
"This, my friends, is the real Victor Frankenstein. Dr. Victor Van Krieger. Born in 1768 in
Geneva, Switzerland. Vanished in 1802, 34 years of age. Unlike his counterpart Frankenstein,
from the novel, he never came to Britain, but lived his whole live in Switzerland, although he
travelled around continental Europe in his younger student years./[COLOR]
"After he finished school he returned back to Geneva, where he drowns himself into research
about death and immortality. He became obsessed with it. As his family became more and
more bothered about it, he moved from the city to a large estate out of town, where he made
his studies and lived with his wife and three children until 1802, when his wife and younger
twins died violently and he disappeared a month later. The only one left alive was his oldest
son Ludwig, who was away at the time with his uncle.
"The house was abandoned and has been left alone empty until two weeks ago, when Victor
Van Krieger, a young medical student and the original Victor's great-grandson, moved back
into the house and has not been seen since.
"I want to know what's happening. Jeeves will drive you tot he airport, where the plane is
ready to go. I want to know what's happening over there. If the young boy is uncovering his
great-grandfather's secrets, I want to know and if necessary stopped. The sooner the better!"
