D&D Movie/TV Photos from the D&D Movie Set

The D&D movie is currently filming at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland. A number of onlookers have posted photos from the set on Twitter, as has Newcastle's The Chronicle. Check the link for lots more! Alnwick was built in 1309, and has been used in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, amongst other things.

D&D’s aesthetic isn’t exactly gritty.
No, but having costumes, props, and sets with a more "lived in" look adds to the realism . . . or the suspension of disbelief.

That's a common problem with bad fantasy and sci-fi films in general, including the first D&D movie, is design that doesn't take that into account. It's one of the factors that made the original Star Wars film an instant classic.

I understand your point. But this is what D&D looks like — the Sword Coast is not a European medieval setting, it’s a modern American renfaire setting. It’ll never be Game of Thrones or Tolkien, it’s a totally different aesthetic.

Title? I don't need no stinkin' title.
Is it just me, or is baldy's sword split at the tip? Not a good sign if it is!
I suspect photographic artifact. The blade was swinging as the picture was taken and it's effectively a double exposure, not that uncommon with digital photography.

I would rather have a mix of used and new, like a real world would have. There will be armor and weapons made by blacksmiths last week, as well as heirloom weapons used by three generations. Unless there is a reason no one is making new clothing, equipment, utensils, etc.

Everything being new is hardly limited to fantasy films. Watch any film or show set even a few decades ago and all the cars are in mint condition.

I found this for Neverwinter city crest

This is the symbol for Astilabor, the dragon goddess if wealth- kind of looks like it but not red.

There is also this one for Pelor, a non-FR god

This is St. Cuthbert from Greyhawk which look some like the middle symbol.

Not sure how close they are making anything, or this may be just a noble family symbol or such.

Well until they confirm the details of the movie we can always just guess and hope things turn up to either confirm the rumours so far?

One thing.... yeah things look "new", but all those medieval museum pieces you see looked a lot newer... when they were new :D The armor... well I guess it's D&Desque. It would be nice if they had some chainmail or plate handy. It would also be nice if they whitewashed / plastered the castle walls too. The bare stone look is an artifact of age / ruins. They liked their walls to be shiny and white back in the medieval day. Armor should be in good repair, weapons too. If they get dinged up they get fixed. Your life is riding on them. Leave the grungy beat up stuff for scavengers, poor bandits, Orcs (the classic evil ones) and the like. On the other hand that would not be the look people are expecting, would it :)
