Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

How is it your hometown has no locally owned eateries? I lived in Manhattan, KS for a while, and even there, we had some non-chain options.

Granted, that’s not a guarantee of any kind. When I was there, we had 2 Chinese restaurants: a good one and a very bad one.
Of course have various local eateries

like 2 to 3 Mexican places one that does Mexican California style (whatever that means) a normal mexican food place, a questionable Chinese buffet place.

We also have subway, i forgot to list that lol

Yeah, we're spoiled for choice here in Portland OR when it comes to fast food. Thanks to our unique city ordinances that allow vendor trucks to remain parked overnight, food trucks have really taken hold...they're a big part of the culture here. There are literally hundreds of them.

It's always the same story: a small indie food truck will open up somewhere, usually next to a tourist landmark or shopping center or campus where there's lots of foot traffic. It will get popular with the local lunch crowd, then the crowd gets big enough to draw the attention of other food carts. So another food cart will park next to it, and then another, and soon you have a whole cluster of them in the neighborhood (food cart "pods," we call them). Some of the larger, older pods serve up everything you can imagine, from tacos and burritos, to fish & chips and sausage rolls, to Korean-Mexican fusion and vegan gluten-free pizza. Everything cooked fresh to order.

Eventually they start staying open for the dinner crowd, then buskers start playing live music for tips. The cart owners all chip in to rent additional parking spots for a couple of shared picnic tables and string lights. Before long, you have an eclectic outdoor neighborhood restaurant instead of a parking lot.

Here's one down by City Hall:

And another on SE Foster:

And another in the Bellmont District, close-in southeast:

PSU Campus (my personal favorite):

If you're a foodie and you're going to be visiting the Pacific Northwest, check out the local food carts. You won't be sorry.

A lot of those serve amazing food. The Foster pic, the Cuban place just in the shot on the right serves great food.

A newer food cart pod opened on 82nd. Core. They have a good selection of Mexican, including a Don Bigote, which does up-scale churros.

I honestly think some of you would fall to the ground and cry if you were limited to the same choices i have:

For pizza I have:
Little Caesars
Dominos
Pizza Hutt

Burgers:
Burger King
McDonald's
Wendy's

Chicken:
KFC
Popeyes

Other:
Taco bell
Starbucks

Only two grocery stores:
Small Walmart (not labeled a super center)
Finn's

It's easy to be snobbish when you have choices 😭

I technically have a lot of choices, but my pickiness doesn't actually express itself in the direction of things a lot of people would consider "good" in some quasi-universal sense. I'll pretty much consume from any of those you name (though I let myself have pizza rarely enough none of those three generic pizza joints would normally be the choice).

As I recall, they’re now a subsidiary of Popeye’s. Church’s is still using their own recipes, so they’re their own thing, culinarily speaking. Which is good- I love Popeye’s, but Church’s is a nice change of pace.

I just wish there was one closer to me. The closest one I can remember is 25-30 minutes away, and there’s a lot of other decent chicken between here and there.

I was startled when I saw one a few weeks ago. I thought they were gone baby gone.

I should not have clicked those articles on Turmeric. I've now altered the algorithm and I'm being told Vitamin D is bad for you (big pharma lies) and 'I'm a pharmacist, avoid these supplements!'
