Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Is it available in more than one set of colors?

While it’s getting access to the new sensing features, the biggest shakeup is the new dark shell option. Apple says this new colorway should be just as durable and scratch-resistant as the other silver titanium body.

There is no reason for Gizmodo to call this a "colorway" instead of a "color," other than the fact that everyone in marketing is now using "colorways" to describe the colors of sneakers, cars and electronic devices.

I have to admit, I dont keep up on the advertising/marketing front, and I unplugged from cable long ago, and my online attention is focused.

I have NEVER heard this word before, and I absolutely hate it.

So when I googled it, I found the recent marketing uses, which are ... painful.

I was unaware of the prior yarn usage (h/t @prabe ).

It's like anything else we see- a term is getting taken from a place where it had an established use, and then used with all the grace and subtlety of a change agent hitting you upside the head with a bag of synergies and actionable insights.

I don't see what you're complaining about: I see the article say the watch is available in three colors. I can see the use in shoes--my hiking shoes were, I'm sure, described thus, not as "gray" or "brown." The last car we bought was "yacht blue," which seems more like a color than a colorway, but if certain colors of trim went with certain base colors, "colorway" would seem like a convenient shorthand for that to me.

Can it be used badly? Probably. Is it inherently being used badly? Not in the examples I've seen here. Can it seem like the use of "data point" instead of "datum?" Yup.

I wonder if knitter forums have a snarky thread where they complain about RPG jargon. They're probably too busy actually enjoying their hobby to care about RPG jargon.

The circle is now complete.
Knitters complain about knitter jargon. They also argue about politics and religion. Sometimes more than they talk about knitting. It's a good thing that we aren't supposed to, here.

Cable, streaming, and online much of the day as I generally work from home. I have never heard this term before today (but it will NOT go in the TIL thread).
