[Polyhedron] Are women interested in this type of fantasy?

Great post Dr. Strangemonkey.

The difference between your examples and Poly's suggestion is that none of the men being rescued were "ineffectual".

Link? Cos I've done a lot of reading that suggests otherwise.

The simple anatomical facts that male and female brains differ significantly in size (by close to 10%) and proportions mean that, given that there is no difference in cognitive ability between the sexes, the wiring has to work differently to at least some degree.

I think if this thread is to survive, it needs to go back to its original question - as a female gamer, would you find this premise interesting enough to play? I apologize for my own part in the slight diversion of this, but we really should go back to sticking to topic.

for those interested in further reading on the subject of "Human Nature" (and I am a proponent of the theory), go to your local library and get a copy of The Blank Slate: the modern denial of human nature by S. Pinker. it's a fascinating book, and the most intriguing reading i've done this year. no joke.

Your sex determines everything from the shape of your face to the size of your hands to what kind of genitals you have, but apparently some people believe that they have nothing to do with the construction of your brain. I find it very difficult to understand this point of view given the anecdotal evidence which is everywhere around us in our everyday lives, and guess it's explained away by several decades of anti-discrimination culture.

The scarey Catch 22 that people fear is that to admit there's a difference opens the door for discrimination.

For instance, african american babies were found to have better motor skills than caucasian babies. This is okay to say from a politically correct perspective for purely cultural reasons, and there's arguably strong anecdotal evidence to support it (dominance of pro basketball by african american players). You'll still find people trying to deny such things, because it's not "equal". But...do we still find caucasian pro basketball players? Yup, and it doesn't stop them from trying. Not so scarey now, is it?

...and i'll add that i have no problem with strong female protagonist types (seeing as how i've played them, and me being a male and all), but i do not believe that women dig weak men.

note here that "strengths" can come in the form of intellect, physical stamina, charisma, whatever... different folk are attracted to different things. no girl who digs "smart guys" is going to date a moron. no girl who digs tough guys is going to date me. ;)

men, however, are hardwired to promulgate their own bloodline. it's all in the coding. we're much less picky.

crap, went off topic again...

anyway, it's all relative. yeah. that's my out. :)

I might very well play it, if I knew someone who wanted to DM it. Not wanting to stray into forbidden territory, I'll just say that I have and will continue to play characters whose motivations aren't necessarily my own, as well as characters who share likes and dislikes with the real me. So whether or not a woman would play in such a game says little about her taste in mates, or her politics, or her philosophy, or much of anything, really.

I was waiting for your input Buttercup. That was a delicate answer ;)

How about this. Assuming the character you play in that game may not have your motivations, would that character be romantically interested in an ineffectual man she rescued?
