Item Saving Throws

In 1e, there was an Item Saving Throws table in the DMG, with a column for acid, and a row for gems, metals, etc. Nowadays, it's a Fortitude save with the utem's plusses (determined as per the Magic Items section of the DMG).

Yep, dung-sifting. Big time moneymaker, if you know how to do it. It's not as easy as it looks sometimes, though. Sure, when you're talking about a constrictor snake or something small, yeah that's no problem. However, those Search DCs really pile up when you're talking about a high-volume dungpile, like say a dragon, or the purple worm of our example.

Not only that, but the Search check penalties for stuff like pungency, consistency, or parasites (they get an AoO if your arm passes through their threat zone when you're searching, you know) -- well, those can just get outrageous.

So I had to make a feat:

Improved Dung-Sifting [General]
You are skilled at sifting through an animal's fecal matter to locate treasure.
Prerequisites: Con 12, low gag-reflex
Benefit: When you attempt to rifle through a dungpile, you receive a +6 competence bonus to your Search check. You can also search a dungpile in half the listed time (see dungpiles, page 17). You are not restricted by your size on the size of dungpile you may search.
Normal: Without this feat, you must make a normal Search check to search a dungpile, and are bound by your size as to how large a pile you may search.
Special: Creatures with Scent gain an additional +4 ability bonus on their Search checks.

That sure helped a lot. My players are much happier now.

Nice one. However, ability score prerequisites should always be odd (giving pcs a reason to increase even numbered stats). Other than this, I think it's a pretty decent feat, though I'd prolly lower the competence bonus to +4 (as that seems to be the top of limited-use skill application bonus feats that I've seen).
