Quentin Tarantino is a crazy man!

This guy was just on the Opie and Anthony radio show, talking about that new movie of his, Grindhouse. I had never heard a live interview of the guy, as the "extras" on DVDs and interviews on television are all edited.

This guy rambles, has very scattered thoughts, and doesn't really listen to people (he cuts off interviewers constantly).

Wow.

It was a real hoot to hear him speak about his films (I'm usually a very big fan of his, especially the Kill Bill movies). They always say artists are a bit off, and this was definitely no exception to that rule.

Yeah,
Quentin is weird. I think there's a movie of the week story there. From what I know he got his start working in a video rental store. Somehow he made it from there to being a big time director. He does seem strange to talk to and lets face it - he looks like a geek. Not to offend geeks out there - I'm one too. But he looks and acts like he spent most of his youth in a basement reading comics, watching 70s ninja movies and playing D&D.
I actually wouldn't mind knowing more about him.

Funny that you mention the geek thing. He started laughing so hard at one point, and it was one of those really geeky laughs that was right outta a "Revenge of the Nerds" movie. He had to suck up his saliva at the end of the laugh.

A good interview with him in it is the Iconblast series on Sundance with fiona apple interviewing him (and vice versa). It was pretty interesting. You're right, even in the edited stage he's all over the map. You could tell that there were just conversations where he completely seemed to dominate the question and answer portion. He'd ask her questions and somehow he'd always end being the one whom talked.

Despite his cheeky manner and disposition, you can't deny how talented the guy is. Or how enthusiastic he is about the whole process of filmmaking. And I've always had the greatest respect for Tarantino in that despite all his success and accolades, he's not an arrogant SOB like some of the so called directors of our time. Hacks like Michael Bay and Brett Ratner come to mind.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to Grindhouse, if only to see Quentin's Death Proof (no, I'm not wanting to see Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror, as I find him overrated at best). And also to take a look at those faux trailers. :)

George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, etc. ;)

Difference being those three have at least done something in the past that can justify them being a bit arrogant.

Lucas founded one of, if not the most powerful sci-fi franchise in existence today.

Francis Ford Coppola, one word... Godfather

Martin Scorsese I'm not terribly up to speed on at the moment, but he's also done some great stuff.

All Bay and Ratner have done so far is make big-budget Hollywood stinkers that somehow turn a profit. I'm just hoping Transformers isn't a total suck-fest.

As for Tarantino... I think he's starting to get an inflated ego about just how supposedly "awesome" his stuff is. But that's just me.
