Ring of the Fey Lord (DM:Atanatotatos, Judge:Lord Sessadore)Up:Lorik, etc.

Rhole investigates the hut himself, retrieving the money, rod, and any other noteworthy trinkets that may turn up.

Take 10: Perception 15

I'm sort of waiting to see if Ironheart's going to take offense at Haruka's recent actions though.
In the meantime, Rhole will be studying anything he finds in the hut. It was a rod, right, and not a wand? :angel:

As to resting, an extended one will mean the difference between a level 1 party that's almost cleaned out of Daily ressources, and a fully recovered (mostly) level 2 party with all their ressources. Considering how reliable fey are in general, I'd suggest the latter.[/sblock]

Rhole is also assaulted by the odour and retches as it nearly overwhelms him, but he recovers the rod and the platinum pieces. There is nothing else here of value.

ooc: I think we've got fairly good reason for an extended rest, IC. We've gone through two fairly tough fights today, and we probably have a long-ish walk back to Lord Arnamil's turf to give the ring back. I don't think it's too meta-game to call it a day.

I don't think so either. You have been assaulted what 4x since travelling here...

So is everyone good with an extended rest? If I don't hear anything back by this afternoon I'll assume yes.

[sblock=ooc]My only concern with an extended rest is, well, where would we take one? However, I also realize that people who weren't me got beat up in the earlier encounter, so I'd be fine with the extended.

JNC! Why isn't Ironheart kicking Haruka's head in with his typical mopey manner?[/sblock]

A couple options to find shelter:

1) DM Fiat - Ironheart knows somewhere around here
2) Short Skill Challenge - lvl 2 - 4 successes before 2 failures - Perception, Nature main skills

Sorry for holding everybody up - every time I've been reading the boards I had two DM threads to update, and then I'd look at this one and see that I was 2 pages behind that I had to catch up on before posting, which kind of kills the inspiration. I figured with so much posted already I'd missed my chance to kick Haruka's ass.

Ironheart's leaves shiver, now flush with greenery. He opens his eyes, lowers his axe, and creakily unfolds his limbs from their frozen position. "It got away," he rumbles. "I was watching for it to attack, and I saw no movement to react to. It got away. Failed again." He shakes himself, sending his new foliage fluttering. "No. Not failed. Not if anyone lives. Have I protected you?" He wheels around to see the party, and sees Haruka standing in the midst of the cirlce of dead vegetation. "What... what has happened here...?"

Suddenly the sigils in the iron rod flare red-hot, matched by the sudden burning of Ironheart's eyes. "YOU!" the tree roars. "YOU did this!" With two great strides it crosses the marshy ground to enter the ring of devestation, brandishing the axe. At the last moment it halts its swing. "This axe cut down the grove I swore to defend," it hisses. "THIS axe bit deep in their bark and opened their hearts to the air!" It raises the axe one-handed and shakes it in Haruka's face. "Now you have done the same! Every shrub, every blade of grass that you've murdered, had a spirit that cries out for vengeance! Why did you do it? WHY? Tell me now why I should not break my oath again, and CUT YOU LIMB FROM LIMB?"

(Wait, didn't this axe come from the hollow tree? Ironheart left his original axe on the bank...)

I know social skills don't work on other PC's, but what the hell.

[sblock=Resting and Levelling]
I'm ok with a skill challenge, I'm trained in Nature.

Will it screw up the balance if I spend some DM credits to jump to Level 3? Haven't decided if I want to yet, or if I want to save them, just want to know if it's ok.

Rhole looks up from his study of the rod, which involves tapping it, prodding it, trying it as a flute, and finally using it as violin bow on his other set of sideburns. As it so happens, this half of his sideburns is somehow tuned to produce fiddle-like music.

“Actually, tree dude, that’s the axe we plundered from Sir Goatface.”

[sblock=OOC]
Any luck on identifying the rod?

A Skill Challenge to search for shelter would be fine with me. In fact, one with a single point of complexity higher would be great (because if we succeed, Rhole can join the others in levelling).
