Haruka attempts to be as useful as possible with finding a trail. Despite her difficulties with communicating and her lack of experience in this area, she is able to be of some help.

Ikni perks up at the mention of a hollow hill. "Would that be underground? A nice cavern system would be lovely. How I tire of this sky, these... trees. So many of them, always moving. Er, present company excepted, of course," she adds hastily, eyeing Ironheart.

But she sighs as Ironheart admits to being mistaken, and turns her eyes back to the swamp, looking for something different to point out to her more knowledgeable comrades. "That crown of tall trees, close together; is that one of your 'groves'?" she asks, pointing.

Rhole snaps his fingers.

“Right on, tree dude, I remember!”

“You’re thinking of the grove that burned during the Battle of Torchnight. They say a catapult misfired with burning payload far from the battle, possibly due to sabotage. Those were some wicked times, crew.”

The gnome keeps his eyes peeled for any markings along their path.

“We should be able to guide our way by traces of the debris, overgrown though it may be.”

History 22

Round 2

By the time he reaches the end of the bridge, Ironheart has shouldered his magic axe and is stroking it lightly with a small vine. He marches right past the other axe embedded in the bank - he seems to have forgotten all about it.

After a short time of following Derien along the path, he lifts his eyes from their abstracted stare at the ground and they light with a glimmer of recognition. "I know this trail," he says. "It leads to a hollow hill. Very dangerous to your kind. We should turn off - there is a grove nearby that burned in the war. Few people go there now, and it is easy to defend."

He turns off, and thrashes through the bush for a half hour, looking for landmarks. Finally he admits, "Perhaps... I was wrong. This is not the trail I thought it was."

Haruka attempts to be as useful as possible with finding a trail. Despite her difficulties with communicating and her lack of experience in this area, she is able to be of some help and with her help Ironheart actually recognizes that it is the area he was aware of. A small, charred plant lies on the ground providing a waypoint on your journey.

Sure. In a tabletop game if Ironheart declared he was going to roll for Nature I'm sure you would jump in and add (I'll aid him).

This is more than just a forest. There is power here, it flows in currents. How hard could it be to follow one?

The forest does not take kindly to her intrusion. Haruka gets her answer a moment later when she's bent over double coughing up soot.

Arcana 14

Derien seems distracted as he travels the forest, but that doesn't stop him from pointing out a charred catapult spar, half-covered by moss. "I think we're headed in the right direction."

Perception 18

Rhole picks up the warlock’s attempt and more than refines it.

“Easy, Haruka. This star right here sensed your attempt to tap into the power of the land, but you’re going about it like opening cans with a sledgehammer. Backlash blows.”

The bard closes his eyes, throws up the horns, and lets himself be driven by where those fingers happen to drift - reminiscent of using a forked stick to find water.

“I was born in the Feywild and learned you have to listen to it, like when you’re tuning a fine delicate instrument to sound just smashing right. The groove flows this way to guide us, you see?”

Arcana 32 (Natural 20!)

Ikni watches attentively as Rhole and Haruka ignore the physical geography of the land, and attempt to follow an underlying reality. "I believe I begin to understand," she ventures. "Like this?"

She hums a low note, and makes a peculiar twisting gesture, while simultaneously stepping to her right and turning slightly to the left. Suddenly the woods seem much less forbidding, and something like a path becomes apparent in the greenery.

ooc: arcana 24.

Between Ironheart's natural knowledge, Rhole's and Ikni's ability to tap into the arcane elements floating through the Feywild and Derien's keen perceptive talents, the group finds a sheltered grove, with large broad trunked trees tightly enclosed that should keep you from outside eyes. There is only one entrance large enough to accomodate a creature of any larger than a halfling.
