Skill points & magic enhanced intelligence

I have a wizard who has a 18 int. and weaing a +6 headband of intelligence. The dm and i are in a argument about the number of skill points i should get per level. I think it should be 10 ,,,,,,, 2 for being a wizard, 7 for the intelligence modifier, and 1 for being human,,, my dm says that the magic enhancement for the intelligence does not affect the skill points so i should only be getting 4 for the intelligence modifier. Anyone know what the exact rules are, and where they are to settle this argument?

Huh, it used to guess that's one of those silly little changes that hasn't come up in my game. I'll have to say that's a stupid rule, non of the other attribute boosters have restrictions like that.

Con increased HP when you have it on, and takes it away when its gone. But the point is if you loose Int points, you don't lose skill points. If they didn't like that as a rule, they should have changed that instead of limited items that increase int.

Giving extra skill points is too much. If you want to do that, the price for the item should be far higher (and then players would be crying b/c they wouldn't be able to afford an Int-enhancing item to which a comparable other-attribute item is far cheaper).

Here's a variant that can make each Headband more unique and keep the numbers balanced: Each headband has a set of skills that it "knows" and you can gain those skill points from the increased intelligence of the headband. You lose those skill points when you take off the headband because you never really knew the skills, the headband did.

Edit: The only problem comes when the wearer has maxed out ranks in all the headband's skills, it won't balance out.

That is exactly my point. Int is the only one that leaves behind something when it is gone, so they HAD to limit the items. It would be really bad to allow losing int to take away skills, because that would drastically increase bookkeeping.

So, you are saying that boosts to intellegence then should be worth more then boosts to other attributes? Since that is what this item does, it boost Int. All I'm asking for is that the item does what it is said to do.
