Smallville "Prodigal" [SPOILERS]

John Crichton

First Post
Lex's brother, assumed dead, returns. In a very Luthor-centric episode where we get to see a little healing between Lex and Pa Kent, Lex shovels manure... and likes it! I liked the plot twists in this one. Well done. The only loser here looks like Clark as Lionel is learning more and more about him and gets more hints about his abilities.

And then there is the big news about Lionel that CAN'T be good for Clark: Not blind?! He says it's only come on recently but the man is full of lies so who really knows. I liked Lucas Luthor. He worked well with the plot and exhibited the traditional Luthor intelligence and cut-throat attitude. The actor didn't really look the part but it still worked.

Very little Lana/Clark in this one. I know that their back-and-forth can get a bit tiresome but as long as it's not drawn out or the center of the episode then it works for the tragedy of the Superman characterization. And in closing, I liked that it wasn't Clark that actually saved the day, because there was really no saving to be done in the first place.

Lana

Heya:

Usually I feel that Lana is a bit unfair to Clark. I think it's a reasonable tradeoff: Clark saves Lana's life repeatedly vs Lana cuts Clark some slack on secrets 'n honesty 'n stuff. Lana rarely upholds her end of the deal, though.

In this episode, however, sheesh, _don't_ hire Clark. I mean, 100% of the evidence shows that he's a complete and total flake when it comes to schedules, appointments, deadlines, etc. Sure, you find out later that there was a fire, Clark was spotted at the scene, and according to the people there amazingly enough nobody was harmed, but still, I want my damn double latte mocha frappacino _now_.

Take care,
Dreeble

So how is Lex taking care of his little bro? :) Does dad Luther think Clark and Lex are working together, Lex's secret weapon against dear old dad? Did Clark stay around to find out it was all Lex's plan to expose dad?

I was very pleased with this one, again shows the complex relationship of Clark and Lex and Lex and family. It is also good to get away from the Lana/Clark help me I bumped my head stories.

I think I missed some episodes. I'm still good with the storyline, but the last ep I saw before this one was the one in the luthor tower where Lionel and Martha were being held hostage and in the vault were kryptonite, Files on people, and the octagonal alien disk.

NOW, I know Martha got the disk and hid it in the flour, but I do beleive that's the one to the space-ship, right? And she knew that when she saw it, b/c she recognized it... So does she tell Clark and Mr Kent(Forgot his name), or does she keep it a secret?

I'ld also like to say I'm really enjoying the series so far. I just hope it keeps going for a while. What with Buffy ending this season (Probably), and a chance that both Angel and Charmed will be done after the next year or two, I'll be needing a good sci-fi/fantasy show that's set in TODAYs times, and Smallville seems to be the only one left to fill that slot if the other 3 go away.
These 4 series, if you ask me, are basically in a category by themselves.. In my experience most people who like 1 like all 4, and most people who hate 1 don't watch the other 3 either. They're very similar in many ways but different enough to provide fresh stories.

OK, there's my little pointless rant. Just felt like saying SOMETHING.

OH yeah.. I loved the fact that it was mostly a Luthor episode.. Lex is an awesome character, and Lionel's just plain evil :D
Ah, role models. *L*

I wouldn't put Charmed in the same category as Angel, Buffy, and Smallville. But then again, I can't stand Charmed, so nevermind.

And for the record: I think I need to get a new VCR. Why? Because once again, the damned thing didn't activate when I set it to record! SONOFABITCH!!! I missed Smallville when it originally aired to watch 24 (I usually tape one and watch the other, but had to watch 24 because my reception for Fox was terrible. Learned my lesson. From now on I tape Smallville and watch 24). So I set the VCR to record the replay on sunday while I go to the theatre to watch Daredevil. I get home and what do I find? Squat. Not a damn thing recorded. DAMN IT!

On the plus side, in between commercial breaks for 24, I did catch some scenes from Smallville, like Lionel having to reveal his non-blindness to Lucas. I've suspected that he could see for a while, now. Cool to see someone else figure it out. Just wish I knew how public that knowledge is. Is Lucas the only one who knows that Lionel can see? *sigh* Oh well. They'll have to show it in re-runs, eventually. Just hope I don't miss it AGAIN. :(

Do you want us to tell you or do you want to try and catch it in re-runs?

If you want to know, scroll down ....

At the end of that episode, Lucas (and Lex) tricks Lionel to prove to Lex that he can see (so by the end of that episode Lex also knows).
In another episode, I am pretty sure that Martha Kent figures it out (but I can't be certain of that fact since I didn't see the particular episode but it was later "suggested" by something she did that she knows).
